Career 53% FT shooter says it all. Last night's FT bricks were ugly.

I would think Brunson is gone. He just got "his" title (don't recall how much of a factor he was on the '16 team), and what more could he prove at this level?

They could really put college basketball to the sword next year and get into a weaker draft. That was the calculation those Florida kids made when they won their first title, I dunno.

I used to think it was the conference's overall relative lack of top tier talent compared to the UNCs, Dukes, Kansases, et al of the world finally catching up on the biggest stage, but now I just kinda think it's a fluke.

True. Safe to say in Brunson's case that dad's opinion will factor heavily.

Itís true. Heís excellent, dedicated, and very very smart. But a big chunk of his game is his post game and hard to see him doing that anywhere close to as effectively against NBA guards. I could see him being a solid rotation PG.

Patrick Ewing should just worry about the Hoyas.

Nice article on Beilein. Truly seems like a good guy -- and he's a Cards fan so he can't be too bad!

Look at Michigan's road to the title game, not exactly murderers row! While I think Beilein is a great coach and Michigan had a nice team, they should have been out the first weekend vs Houston. They played Montana, Houston, A&M, Florida St, Loyola to get to the title game. Can't take anything away, you play who is in front of you but their path was not difficult to say the least.

I'd hardly call that many teams from one conference making the NC game "struggles". I'd just call it bad luck or coincidence. That said, let's be the next ones to make a NC game because I think the B1G is overdue to win a Natty.

That got me thinking about even the potential for this to happen. A fair number of NFL cities have P5 or mid-major schools either in the city or in the metro area. Having both even be contenders in any given year is challenging for some of these cities, but with others it's actually a surprise it hasn't happened. It's been close several times:

1980 - the Rams lost the Super Bowl to the Steelers, and then UCLA lost to Louisville in the NCAA.
1984 - The 'Skins lost the SB to the Raiders, and Georgetown won the NCAA.
2010 - the Colts and Butler were both runners-up.

Metro areas where it could happen. NFL city - NCAA school(s):
Arizona - ASU
Atlanta - GaTech
Chicago - DePaul, Northwestern, those scrappers from Loyola
Cincinnati - Cincinnati, Xavier
Detroit - scUM
Houston - U of Houston
Indy - Butler
LA - USC, UCLA
Miami - U of Miami
New England - Boston College
New York - St Johns, Seton Hall
Minnesota - Minnesota
Philly - Villanova
Pittsburgh - Pitt
San Francisco - Stanford
Seattle - UW
Tennessee - Vandy, Belmont
Washington - Georgetown

San Francisco - USF has a title or two, I think (courtesy of Big Russ)

Seattle - Seattle U a runner up back in the day (courtesy of Elgin Baylor)

Picking nits, but SF and Stanford is a bit of a stretch. Even Detroit and scUM.

Heck, despite their marketing campaign, I wouldn't even count northwestern as chicago.
True. Stanford is actually closer to downtown SF than Ann Arbor is to downtown Detroit when I looked it up on a map.

He's got a place in the league, but he's nowhere near the prospect Bridges is.

I think Spellman has a chance to be a lottery guy next year. Perfect new era big.

I predicted after Groceís first year that Illinois would be the team to win the next title for the B1G and pull it out of its slump.

That could still hold true! Though it definitely wonít be John Groce doing it...

Yep, I looked at that and balked for some reason, but same conference as Cincinnati and Houston. I also should/could have included
New Orleans - Tulane
Tampa - USF
Philly - Temple

I'm either bored, or OCD, so...If we keep moving down in conference prestige the list gets a lot longer, but the chances of a two-fer get a LOT leaner because then we would include

St. Louis U* (but no NFL team there anymore)
Lipscomb
U of Jacksonville and North Florida
Kennesaw State (ATL burbs)
University of Charleston
UNC-Charleston
All the UC and CS branches in the greater LA area

UIC
University of Green Bay
Cleveland State
Detroit Mercy
