Illini players use team concept to police themselves

Zook talked about a concept he installed in March that is still in place and seems to be working.

He divided the roster into 10 teams and appointed a captain for each team. Then he held a draft and the captains picked players based on their ability to behave, be on time, follow rules, etc.

If any member of a team breaks a rule (social, academic, could be something like being late for a weight lifting session), the coaching staff assigns a penalty. It's usually work on the Stairmaster. And everyone on that "character team" has to do the penalty.
