If they trust in Garcia's health, give it to him. Keep Marco in the minors as a backup like you said. Walden gets the 7th, Martinez gets the 8th, and Rosie closing it out would be dominating.

I'd say give it to Garcia and get as many starts out of that $5M/yr arm as possible before he inevitably gets shut down.

Marco/Martinez will have their shot as the 5th starter soon enough...

Makes a lot of sense. Used the same philosophy on my Toro mower last year. Lasted till August. No more $$ went towards it.

IMO, you have to give it to Carlos. Jaime has really surprised me this far into spring, as well as Marco. Martinez just has more explosive stuff/upside than the two leftys. I'm all for Marco getting his shot, he is still very new to the league. Jaime has to be your spot starter at the beginning of the year 1) his contract 2) his experience 3) he is often hurt, so if history repeats itself like it has the last few seasons for Garcia, Marco will be getting the call up.

Hoping Jaime comes out and is old Jaime though!! Always been a fan when he's healthy.

I get to wear my new softball number tonight for first time. I chose 18 for our fallen Cardinals player.

Cardinals traded Sam Freeman to the Rangers yesterday for cash considerations or a PTBNL. Trade really wasn't much of a surprise as Choate and Siegrist were going to be the two main lefties out of the bullpen this season. Freeman was also out of options as well so he would have had to make it through waivers to be sent back to Memphis.

Jaime with shoulder issues again, can't really say I'm surprised, but figured he would have at least given us a good start or two in the regular season to really get our hopes up that he was back before burning us again.

If Jaime isn't able to start season with team he will most likely be placed on DL and stay in Florida for extended spring training. I believe that is what I have read previously on STLToday.com.

I thought that was the original plan any way, until he started performing well.

I hope this is a joke. Wainwright.

Well, it's official now. They announced it today. Didn't he tweak something in spring training? For some reason I thought he wasn't 100% healthy, maybe I'm going crazy.

Anyway, Wainwright Lester opening night at Wrigley on Easter...couldn't ask for much else. It will be extremely weird to see no bleacher bums though. We'll get an early glimpse at what this lefty loaded lineup can do against a lefty.

He did tweak his oblique but it was very minor. only missed a week iirc

Kozma and Grichuk both make final 25. Who do you think wins the last spot? My moneys on Ty Kelly until Bourjos is all the way healthy.

Well, the Rams traded Bradford to the Eagles for Foles. Maybe the Cards can trade Garcia to the Phillies for Hamels. :)

Seriously, though, I wonder if Garcia's shoulder would hold up better if he were used in short spurts out of the pen. He clearly can't stay healthy as a starter.

Don't think so. He has always been a starter and I don't think he would be able to make the transition to the pen. His shoulder doesn't hold up with 4 days rest, no way it makes it through the short rest out of the pen plus all of the warm up and go another direction based on match ups

Lot of lefties(no surprise) against one of the best lefties in the game. Lets go Cards!

A phrase I've known & loved since second grade at Bottenfield, courtesy of WDWS, "St. Louis Cardinal Baseball is on the air!" Still makes me smile.
