I will note that the last time we had a George as AD we won 4 national titles in football! More seriously having a football guy from a period when we were pretty good is a good thing. I think his orientation will be all out for football (don't bring up RG!).

So, I was reading George's bio on the Colorado website and found this little nugget:

"... but none more significant than shepherding through a $143 Athletic Complex Expansion from creation through fruition ..."

He achieved the whole expansion with only $143?! :tsk:

There is a tremendous amount of chatter on Twitter about potential good news on the AD front. I don't think anyone has implied we've landed anyone, but it sounds like many in the media who follow Illinois are hearing that wealthy alums are involved, they are targeting significant candidates with an Illinois background and money is not going to be an issue.

With at least 3 great candidates out there, let's hope we can land one of them. If we can't after all of this, well, I don't know what to think...

I guess he has a choice, remain to be loved in Colorado, or, be the Savior of your Alma Mater. By the way, a lot of the non-revenue sports are doing fantastically well. He just would have to concentrate on football and basketball.

That's sort of like saying the Titanic has really nice deck chairs.

To really maximize this hire and rebrand Illinois, I think Craig Tiley would be our best choice. He built a winning tennis program at Illinois that is still successful today. He is the CEO of Tennis Australia.

He would bring both inside knowledge and an outsider's perspective which might be what we need.

If Khan is involved I would think Tiley has a legitimate chance to be the hire. The tennis program's facility is named after Khan. You know, the tennis program that Tiley built.

If George passes, Tiley will get a nice offer to become the next ad. He does has some interest, FYI.

Wait, who's the third? Pretty big dropoff after George, IMO

AD Rick George said he has no intention of leaving Colorado any time soon and he will not pursue the AD job at Illinois.

Rick George: "Should Illinois contact me, that would be humbling and flattering, but I would decline." #cubuffs

Rick George: "I can honestly tell you that I’m planning on being at Colorado as the athletic director for the foreseeable future."

For a minute there I thought I wasn't a fan of Illinois, but then....I remember it all now

From the looks of these quotes, it seems he's not going to come here.

You guys know people say stuff like that all the time, right? Decline decline decline until actually presented an offer

Time to back up the truck. Need major $$$ to overcome a decline that specific. I have zero confidence we'll do that though.
