From a corporate view, the decision made by the administration makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, we are dealing with human beings and not widgets. I kinda think that this goes all the way to the top. While you can say "we want to make the right decision", dragging all of these decision in and outside of the DIA, is only denigrating the University's stature nationally and the athletic dysfunction only serves to further spotlight the now academic issues. I truly hope that the plan is for BC to only be here one year because I think that we can survive it if the right hire is made then. Give BC his $1.6M (or whatever it is) and say thanks for the help, we've got it now. Enjoy your retirement. I unfortunately don't feel a firestorm of confidence about this whole dance. I hope that some strong, influential alums swoop in to bring some sanity and success to the DIA.

The BOT meets every other month, and usually things need to get on the agenda a week or two in advance. Looks like the next meeting is January 21, 2016 in Chicago, my guess is approval would be at that meeting.
This encapsulates my thinking:

One line in particular caught my attention and that being the ability of a new AD to name his own coach. Perhaps ask this question: "What top AD would want to come here if he were faced with a new 5 year contract for someone he doesn't want as HC?" That could be Cubit, Miles or any of the other candidates bandied about.

There are two people that should have the Illinois AD job right now. Rick George should have been the hire back in 2011, and failing that, Mike Hogan should have followed his search committee's recommendation and hired Mike Bobinski, then of Xavier, now of Georgia Tech.
Rick George was hired just seven months after Mike MacIntyre was hired as Colorado's football coach, before MacIntyre had coached a single game. MacIntyre is 10-27 and 2-25 in the Pac 12, and George is standing steadfastly behind him and has publicly committed to another season for him.
Mike Bobinski was hired at Georgia Tech in the middle of Brian Gregory's second season at Georgia Tech. In four years at the helm, Gregory is 56-71, 19-51 in the ACC, has never finished higher than 9th in the conference, or made ANY postseason tournament, not just the NCAA's. Bobinski has stood steadfastly by him.
The point is, this idea that any AD must have their own coaches and will use any possible excuse to fire someone in order to install "their guy" is a wild exaggeration with no basis in reality. What Mike Thomas did was a vanishingly rare exception, it is not anything close to the rule. Virtually 100% of AD's are hired to work with existing revenue sport coaches.

You are correct. The permission to speak gives the student athlete the right to explore transfer options. It does not mean that they are actually transferring.
Unfortunately one of them is a 4 star.We only have 3 of those.
