After reading the attached previous attached article, While there were a
few program outliers, i found that most "at risk" student/athletes entered
into special programs in the ACC did suprisingly well. Maybe thats
not what anyone at illinois admissions wants to hear, but Maryland
seemed to be the "average" with campus wide graduation rates at
88%, these students (33 in thier program), including the professional
athletes who leave early, had about a 55% graduation rate with a number
of kids leaving school early while still in academic good standing. Less
than 10% were forced out of school because their grades didnt cut it.
Should we expect more? What an opportiunity for a disadvantaged inner
city kid to get an education. and im a conservative by nature, but why turn
these kids away if sports goives them an opportunity?

Chicken Little where have you been? We have nearly 2 months left and have had some top notch recruits in the last 2 weekends. I am saying that all that doom can happen and that is worst case scenario where the admin seems to live. However they might stumble out of the woods and see the light of day, to make some good decisions and the coaches stem the bleeding. If you call a 5th string running back and one commit major loses.
My advice is hold your mud and just right the wave see where it takes you.

For me it's not so much commits flipping or players transferring. It's the fact our new HC mentioned he had a string of players chomping at the bit to commit just waiting for him to be HC.

Well he is, where are those players?

Maybe he told those players he was going to be here 3 or 4 years... then he was given the 2 year deal with a low buyout after 1 year. I didn't want Cubit, I blame the leadership at the university for creating this situation. They could have axed Thomas in August with Beckman, then concluded the AD search before the season ended. The new AD could have hired his new coach after the season. Seamless and tidy, but no.... they (UofI administration) have to completely F it all up. This is the result... :tsk:

Not the first time Cubit has been full of crap.

I don't recall ever hearing that he had recruits waiting, except for some people posting that. What if what they really said was " we're gonna wait to see if you become head coach" and he spun it around thinking they would commit. But really they were waiting so they could go elsewhere if he became the coach here.

@Payton I don't have the link handy, but weren't all the original reports saying it was Cubit who brought the idea of the 2 year contract up to the administration? Was that proven false?

@BombSquad I distinctly recall the video where he said he had recruits waiting just waiting to see if he will be the HC. I'm not sure if was pre/post Minnesota or pre Northwestern, but I definitely recall seeing that video. found it:

That is the way I recall it. Now there are reports/posts he's unhappy with how the second year is structured.

They've actually lowered admission standards on the academic side so it will be interesting to see how that affects athletics. This has probably been mentioned, sorry if so

Very nice pickup. We lost a 5th string rb and and a mid 3* guard with more raw ability to rise in their place we land a mid 3* safety and a high 3* juco cb. Now we need to land a couple of the o-lineman over the last two weekends 3 of which might be Simms equal or better. Stover , Williams, Garfunkel.
I don't know if Darta Lee has any interest but he is another that would be an equally nice addition. For the 3 record I like the all four guys I named better than Tre Johnson and Sean Foster.

Not sure what we have qualifies as a "Nation". :D

OK, so I confess I hate the fact that every school calls their fanbase a "nation" now.

Well every school is using it in the correct context so the fan base is indeed a nation..

na·tion
ˈnāSH(ə)n/
noun
a large aggregate of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.

Per CSN Chicago - Sam Brodner is opening up his recruiting (previously verballed to Vandy)... considering Illinois, Syracuse, Iowa (who has yet to offer).

Illinois was runner-up in his initial summer decision.

Will end up at Iowa if they offer.

I see the recruiting strategy now, with a two year interim coach we will only go after jucos with two years of eligibility remaining. Makes perfect sense.

I knew someone would jump on this. Ding Ding your first who knows maybe that would work.

Brodner's is one of about 30 tapes I want to look at I have not seen. About 10 of which could be significant for the team.
What position do you think he is best suited for in college since lb and rb have been mentioned?

Start him out at RB. If it's not happening, move him to LB. For those scoffing about RB, he's got 4.47 speed. And, oh yeah, he's an utter animal. PU did alright with Alstott.

I'd love to snag him, but he'll end up at another B10 school.
