We're approaching 1/4th of the year without an athletic director and still no actual end in sight.

A actual timeline would be the best.

I'm waiting for Dan to close the thread and start a new one like the recruiting threads. Lol

I haven't seen anything that makes me think all but certain. I think he is one possibilty. But I don't know why he would be certain.

Count me as another one that isn't quite convinced Whitman is a done deal. No inside info here, but just because the N-G ran a story on him today doesn't mean anything, and we're already hearing mixed opinions on what Tate may or may not have said on the radio.

I highly doubt the DIA is sophisticated enough to plant a story like that with the N-G without the actual story leaking. When's the last time they actually had a scoop?

Can't you see it now?

"Guys, all I can say is that Khan blew Rick away with his visit. Said it was the best visit he's ever been on. In fact, he committed while they were at breakfast, but wanted to go home to triple check with his family to just go the extra mile. That's where the problems started. He's had his wife in his ear from the start of this process talking up Colorado. And then let's just say the Buffs took the opportunity to operate in the gray area. Even then, Shad thought he had him right up until the press conference. Crazy stuff, but this is big time college sports.

Know it stings now but rest assured these boosters are putting in the work and giving it 110% This is the type of AD candidate everybody said they wanted to chase, and frankly, if you're not hearing "no" you're chasing the wrong caliber of person. I dunno about you, but in the end I want people who want to be here and who aren't afraid of taking the keys, and if that's Whitman or Michael, then I say come on down."

I heard George's mom really likes Khan.

I think if we don't get Tiley or George it won't be because they don't want to come here or because we're too cheap or because Wilson et al are incompetent. The most likely reason will be the most obvious one: they each have a really good gig presently.

If George elects to not come, I believe this is true. It doesn't take some sort of "insider" to look at his current status at Colorado and realize life is pretty good for him right now.

As for my assumption, I based it off the tweets from Werner this afternoon saying an announcement was near and the quote from Tate on here. If the quote on Whitman is out of context, then perhaps he's not yet the chosen one; however, that was the sole basis for my prior comment regarding his qualifications for the football hire.

Whitman is also a known commodity to the donor community, and as an advocate within the University, he's basically the platonic ideal of an Illinois student-athlete. No one is going to have more credibility arguing for how to handle the academics of the football team than the Bronze Tablet undergrad, Summa Cum Laude law school grad who is also a Paul Bunyanesque former NFL player with a voice like Don Draper. He's a cold-blooded killer.

Yep, he does sound like Don Draper: Meet the Director of Athletics: Josh Whitman

Just listened again to Tate on MMQB

Definitely said he believes George has passed and they will be moving to Tiley full steam. Said Tiley has to deny until George officially out. Said he doesn't know if Tiley wants it or not.

The Josh Whitman comment was in response to the question "If both those guys pass, who's our guy"?

Chances on an announcement this week?

Wilson announces a " super committee" formation to prepare a report to "gauge" the progress of the AD search committee. Once the super committee comes back with it's recommendations, the AD search committee will continue in a direction suggested by the super committee.

Well done! Thanks.

I miss all this fun because I am one of the only people that follow mainly football for Illinois (I know Ill is basically a basketball school). I have another school I mainly follow for basketball.

Anyway, the fun I miss. All I know is we have our coach (Cubit):(
