I want another 100-point game, but this time in 40 minutes and without Rutgers also putting up a century.

They need to come up with a clever way to get folks to this game. I really hope the orange seats hide the empties. I can't imagine there will be a whole lot of folks at this one.

Agreed. This game might not even draw 10000 at SFC. :tsk:

Season ticket numbers help keep the home numbers from getting too low, so I'm guessing announced "attendance" won't be that low, but it'll be sparsely attended. I'm guessing 10,500 announced, maybe 5000 butts in the seats.

Either way, really sad.

Yep, there will not be many at this game. No reason to keep throwing good money/time after bad. I use to drive 2 1/2 hours on week nights to watch the beloved, but why waste the time and money when hope is dwindling with this regime.

That being said, we should win this game. We better.

Welcome to Coach Groce's wild ride, please keep your harness strapped down with hands and feet inside the coaster at all times. Thank you and try not to get an aneurysm.

A roller coaster is an apt metaphor for Groce's time at Illinois - peak early, and then downhill ever since. :thumb:

We need to beat somebody down, hope we can do it this game. I'm tired of the last second or OT wins against marginal teams. We have enough horses even without Thorne and Black to win by 20...let's do it.

I am thinking Big Mike might make his State Farm Center debut tomorrow night. No buzz. Just seems right.

John Groce press conference

https://twitter.com/DPiperScout

Groce: Watched the film from Saturday. Thought we played really hard, good on the glass, defense was good enough to win.

Groce: Definitely see players getting better as individuals. Also getting better as a team.

Groce: Didn't do much physically yesterday. Will do a little bit more today. But that's the nature of February. Trying to stay fresh

Groce: The first game against Rutgers was a classic. Watched it on film many times. Didn't play great but guys made plays.

Groce: Thought Malcolm Hill did a good job at PG. Role hasn't been perfected. Bye week helped for implementation of that.

Groce: We will look at any and all avenues to get better. Do I think Hill at PG worked well enough to do it again? No question.

Groce: Got to look at Hill scoring at PG. Just 2-8 on Sat. But it's about what's best for the team. He's got to play the right way.

Groce: Both injury and tough Big Ten have contributed to Finke's numbers dip. Great on the offensive glass the other day.

Groce: Talent wise, Corey Sanders is up there with top PGs we've played. Toughest thing is he's so explosive.

Groce: One of the best feelings to have is hope. D.J. has been developing. Finke has done good things. That's very encouraging.

Groce: D.J. Williams is going to play the minutes that he's earned. Definitely earned what he's gotten to this point.

Groce: My biggest concern with Mike Thorne is his health. He's had setbacks. Want to do the right thing medically for his body.

Sadly, this might be the last win of the season. Or that may have already happened :(

Oh, please, not. Yes, a win, but not the last one. Penn State is still doable, even in their house...which I will be in, right in the middle of the PSU season ticket holders in my orange Chief sweatshirt.

I am thinking that with 28 wins in 3 years, Eddie Jordan is coaching his final few games at Rutgers.

I look for Rutgers to hire Herb Sendek.

Sanders being out sets this up for being the beat down this team needs. They really need a convincing win to get their confidence back for the final stretch of games. After this game there are 2 more what I would consider to be "winnable" games against Minny at home and PSU away, and 3 tough games in IU at home and Wisc and Maryland on the road. The Maryland game is the only one I consider unwinnable, but the other 2 we could definitely be competitive and maybe steal 1 or both. Need to get that ball rolling tomorrow night.
