If I coached this team which I clearly do not, nor am capable of doing, I am telling Jaylon that not only will he not start or play much until he develops a pull-up jumper and his three point shot, he won't even practice with the team in team drills until he has developed those traits. And then I am assigning a grad asst. to work with him personally on his dribble, pull-up J, and three point shot. Ultimately, it is all about his footwork, repetition and confidence.

He is of no service to the team until he hones his pull up jumper and three point shot. In addition, he has to bulk up this off-season to defend his position better.

His vision and passing skills are way above average, but until he becomes a scoring threat, teams will slack off of him and clog up our offense.

ILLINOIS is a 14.5 chalk over Rutgers.

If you would have told me that Illinois was going to be a 14.5 favorite at anytime this season I would call you crazy.

You wouldn't let him practice with the team....

Taking it a bit far, don't you think?

Good opportunity to bring back the "House of Paign" for one night...would love to see a beat down in conference play this season!:thumb:

Gotta take Rutgers and the 14.5

I read it as he was trying to force Jaylon to quit, because that is exactly what he or anyone else would do in that situation.

Rutgers without Sanders is comparable to Chicago State or UIC. Should be a blow out.

I should have checked on Sanders and his 39 points last game against Illinois before betting on Rutgers. Even missing Sanders Illinois will need to hit a lot of 3 's to cover the spread.

Sadly, this might be the last win of the season. Or that may have already happened :(

Oh, please, not. Yes, a win, but not the last one. Penn State is still doable, even in their house...which I will be in, right in the middle of the PSU season ticket holders in my orange Chief sweatshirt.

I really hope we win the PSU game too (and any others we play.) Also forgot that we have Minny at home as well which we have no business losing. Just have a very low confidence level after the Northwestern performance.

I would also add that it takes 10 players to practice game type situations, whether it is offense, defense, etc. With all the injuries, I would think that he would be very much a part of these situations.

Not at all. Jaclyn has potential.

I simply meant that during team portion of practice (the non-individual drills part), I would have Jaylon shooting 3 pointers and pull up jumpers so that he gets the message that he has to be able to execute those shots at a basic level for the team to be successful on offense while he is in the game.

I want Jaylon to succeed. I like his vision and passing ability. He would be an effective PG IF he could/would shoot from the 3 point line AND develop a pull up jumper. But, until he develops both of those shots, it is pointless to even play him as his presence on the court bogs down the offense. His defender sags off of him thus preventing his only offensive move (the drive to the basket)

He's basically like Frazier was his first three seasons minus the defense and rebounding that Chester brought.

I'm at a loss as to why Jaylon's shot wasn't fixed during or right after his freshman year. If he could participate in the offense it would help the team a lot. His jumper is as ugly as when he got here. Not sure whether our staff isn't capable of helping or he's not willing.

I know he's struggled from the FT line this season (due to injury), but he did well there last year and his form looks fine. That generally suggests he's capable of also being competent at shooting jump shots from the field as well. Very puzzling.

Not many players go almost their entire high school careers as just facilitators. Tate is quite an anomaly.

Spot on comparison to Chet. And it was night and day on how the offense functioned when he was an effective part of the O. Don't know what caused the light to go on for Frazier, but he went from being a non-scorer his junior year to (IMO) the most valuable member of the team his senior year.

Actually, Rutgers cannot stop anybody inside. They have no interior.

Sanders being out sets this up for being the beat down this team needs. They really need a convincing win to get their confidence back for the final stretch of games. After this game there are 2 more what I would consider to be "winnable" games against Minny at home and PSU away, and 3 tough games in IU at home and Wisc and Maryland on the road. The Maryland game is the only one I consider unwinnable, but the other 2 we could definitely be competitive and maybe steal 1 or both. Need to get that ball rolling tomorrow night.

You need to lay off the koolaid or pass me some. We just aren't good enough at this point to steal both of those games, thinking we could steal one at this point will likely take some more koolaid.

But let's just start with a good old fashioned win against Rutgers, if we get a beatdown win all the better.

I think we win, & I wouldn't touch this game with real money, but with someone else's money I take Rutgers to cover the 14.5 point spread. Sure there top scorer is out, but we make new & great offensive players on every team we meet. Sure they can't stop anyone inside, but we don't have anyone inside to stop. Yes Rutgers is equivalent to Sister Mary's of the poor, I just don't think we are 14.5 points better than Sister Mary's right now.

We just need to win.
