I love that mentality. You're a high school player in Illinois? U of I is therefore your university.

You know what I like? That the stakes are so low for this press conference. You - and the rest of the country - know who Lovie Smith is.

Tupper said that Lovie was on that plane we were seeing yesterday. Lovie stayed on and taxi'd to the terminal. Lol

Hmm way back yesterday I said had inside info from the pilot that he was on the plane and everyone doubted me....

Hats off to Josh Whitman on this. He has delivered big time.

I don't recall anyone saying that. Some people wishfully inferred that, but if you think there was any coherent rationale offered for the two-year extension, I humbly disagree.

Well, I don't want to belabor it because it's old news at this point, but this was one of Barb Wilson's quote from the 11/28/15 N-G article announcing the Cubit deal:

"This move will allow the permanent Athletics Director to evaluate the program at his or her own schedule and make decisions based on those evaluations once that search [for the permanent AD] is completed." That's exactly what ended up happening. Can't really say Cubit was not on notice.

And there were similar sentiments expressed elsewhere. I don't have the exact quote, but in another interview she said something to effect that, you hire a permanent AD first, and the permanent AD hires the coach he wants, that's how this process works. That was a explanation for why Cubit was retained rather than permit the interim AD to pick a permanent coach.

OMG. Stop talking about Mike Ditka. My feed is obviously delayed, but seriously.

I thought you were joking.

No that was totally legit. Was with the ex-fiance of the pilot and she texted him to ask about it. He said he was under the impression it was supposed to be a secret and was surprised we knew about it already.

Most articulate and well spoken coach we've had since Mackovic? Turner? Zook and Beckman certainly never won a news conference. And he can pronounce Illinois!!!!

We've all been burned by "inside" info in the past that people are afraid things are going to blow up until we hear it for ourselves.

Maybe things are really going to change for Illini sports.

Lovie hinting at him having other coaching offers in the works before taking the Illinois job. Goes against what ESPN1000 was saying about Lovie sitting around with nothing to do.

God, to hear him say he wants to finish his career in Illinois is refreshing.

Lovie meeting the team. This right here gets me pumped.

P.S. Does the bad spacing between "TO" and "WIN" bother anyone else? #OCD

The reason the spacing is off is because it used to say "EXPECT TWO WINS".

Does that mean we're going to recruit an actual punter/kicker?

Amazing hearing an Illinois football coach who sounds like a professional, through and through. What a country.
