I obviously don't know what went on behind the scenes, but it certainly looks like Barb Wilson did a great job.

As did the search committee, including the one that posts here from time to time. I will buy the one I know a great big beer and shake his hand in congratulations the next time I see him. :shield:

Wife couldn't believe that this was important enough to interrupt her soaps. She actually watched the press conference with me and then left for work. She just sent me a text that it was all over the radio and now she actually wants to go to a game. My wife is not a football fan, so this is amazing....lol. :thumb:

Denardo just explained that in two of the head coaching jobs he got he already had agreements before the previous guy was fired and actually had a contract on one of them so nothing sleazy or cheap going on here. This is the big leagues. Nice to hear that from a guy that's been there done that.

Yep. Some people just need to put their big boy pants on today.

The amazing thing to me out of all this is that not only did a brand new AD, who was literally hours into the job which was two steps up from any previous position that he had had, manage to change the perception of a University and football program from "uncool dumpster fire trainwreck" into "100% cool" in a matter of 48 hours, but the fact that he did it with the utmost level of skill, professionalism, and bravado that was so un-Illinois-like as for it all to seem like an incomprehensible dream. Josh Whitman has to be the coolest of the cool to pull off something like this, and probably made the biggest splash of any new hire in the history of employment. And he pulled it off with ease. Not even a hint of nervousness amid all the media inquiries and rumors and attention. Just smooth. I'm still in awe.

BTN crew very positive about the whole thing. What a great day to be an Illini. I don't know that I've felt this sense of pride since graduation day. Many pauses to wipe eyes today. Thank you Josh. Thank you Lovie.

Let's win a game or two in the tournament this week and stoke the recruiting fire a little.

Yes. Just incredible. Can't put it into words right now.

Hear hear. I could be petty and rehash certain things that obviously rubbed me the wrong way when they were happening but success is the ultimate elixir. Let's all raise a glass together -- Barb, the search committee, their defenders, and irate message board posters like me -- and toast the best 72 hours that any of us can remember. Somehow it worked! We're all friends again!

One thing that I think is a little lost in this is that there is a huge opportunity here to grab some new fans. There is a large population of sports fans in the stl metro area and a little beyond who have recently lost their pro team, and been soured on the NFL as a whole. These people have never been big illini fans because 1. The team has been mediocre at best for some time, and 2. The stl media gives little to no coverage of the illini football team, opting instead to cover mizzou. With this hire, the rams leaving, and mizzou being in a bit of a dumpster fire all around, this is a big opportunity to pick up some fans young and old

She just looks like the proud mom in this picture. Bet she didn't know Josh was going to make her look so good so fast. Way to go both of you.

This is horrible to say but there seemed to be a lot more "polish" in the audience today with the Chicago media in town asking questions. They asked some great questions. Oh, and Ryan Baker had a front row seat.

Well a quick google search gave me the stat that Polish Americans are the largest European American ethnic group in the Chicago Metropolitan area with as many as 1.5 million claiming Polish ancestry, so I'm sure some work in the media :D

On a serious note... this is simply amazing. Loved what he said about in state recruits, and about wanting to finish his career here. Normally I'm happier on Friday after work, than I am on Monday mornings... Not the case this past weekend!

I honestly haven't felt this for way too long...true pride for being an Illinois graduate and an Illini fan. Long overdue!!!

I'm thrilled with Lovie, but even more excited about Whitman. Very very impressive start.

Now, since I was in a meeting during the presser, who has a link to the full archive? Dying to see/here it!

Today has been such a needed breath of fresh air...

Go Illini!

Dinardo thinks the biggest concern with Lovie will be recruiting. I tend to agree.

The new coaching staff can help overcome that weakness.

I work with a couple of Tennessee alums/fans, and both have said that Lovie was an incredible recruiter when he was there 20 years ago. Apparently there was a significant chunk of Vols fans that wanted Lovie when Kiffin left.

Great, we add Tennessee to our recruiting base. :)

Will toast with a Yuengling as soon as I get out of this meeting. It's taking forever! Cmon lady, end it !

You know the way all of this has played out, it is no surprise that Barb Wilson while introducing Josh Whitman as the new AD alluded to him being able to "walk on water". I thought it was great praise for someone with no experience at D1 level. Seems like the lady may have known something was coming.

Really excited that the administration is getting it. Really hope Chancellor Wilson stays on board.
