He and Da'Monte both have not had explosive HS seasons. AAU season will tell a lot for both.

Not sure about that. Watched Da'monte a lot this year. The PPG may not be that impressive but he brings so much more to the team. Defense, passing, rebounding. If he took as many shots as Charlie Moore does, he'd average 30.

realism: the quality of a person who understands what is real and possible in a particular situation and is able to deal with problems in an effective and practical way

pessimism: a feeling or belief that bad things will happen in the future : a feeling or belief that what you hope for will not happen

According to Merriam Webster, realism and pessimism are not synonymous. I love seeing pessimists on here claiming they are realists. JMHO :D

Youll get used to it. Although I do believe times are changing.

How Jeremiah Tilmon performs in the Dicks Sporting Goods National Tournament should go a long way to sustaining that 5-star status. I'm thinking of getting over to the first game against St. Benedict's Prep (Newark,NJ), so if I head over I'll finally get to do a live report!

St. Benedict's is still nationally ranked after losing Trevon Duval this year. If you haven't seen him play yet, check him out.

He already lost his 5* status on ESPN, so it sounds like they heard about the silent verbal.

I think that's the strongest evidence we have heard so far that he is coming to Illinois.

The real question is not whether they have heard the silent verbal but whether they have smelled it??

Assuming Tilmon and Goodwin commit, the 5th ride should go to a legit PF, not a tweener or an undersized PF. Hard pass on Negron. Culver, John and the 2 hoosiers should be the Plan A guys.

A season ending injury will make it a lock.

For those with comprehension issues, in no way do I want Tilmon injured.

i know everybody wants bigs, and i get it... however, athletic, long defenders who can alter shots can be 3's and 4's. Look at Ohio state. they have few real centers but thier size impacts the other team. It can be just as effective. These type players also can rebound, run the court and open up offenses. I'm not sure how many of this type we will have, Damonte is long armed and quick but not a "great" athlete. DJW might be the closest but so far hasn't shown the defensive ability i think he has.. I thought KN was that type player but he's 6-4 maybe and hasnt shown the defensive skills i expected. The new KN (Kipper) might be this type next year. This type player might also be easier to acquire than the 6-10 and up true centers that most everyone is fighting for. Remember the great illini teams from the past were long but not so tall. Get me ahtletes who can run and jump and we can teach some skills to to fill out this roster.

Using a team that's in the NIT may not have been the best example :D

They've got Giddens, Thompson and Bell who are all 6'10" +

Agree having size at other positions can be a bonus.

We need bigs desperately. Look at the impact that Bielfeldt and Thomas Bryant had for Indiana. They completely changed the composition of that team. I do agree we need to upgrade our athleticism. I would say this past season we were probably one of the least athletic teams in the Big10 and it more than likely affected our ability to defend.

+1

Lack of athleticism and height hurt us on both ends of the floor. We were at a disadvantage to just about every BIG team, and frequently that disadvantage was huge.

Does anyone know the tip off times for the state tournament games tomorrow? I can't wait to see lil' Frank!

I want a big(Tilmon)...but to your point, here's another team that has a similar mindset to yours I think

agree with this....when the last time you saw an Illini guard or wing turn the corner, drive the basket and dunk?....remember watching kendall gill as a frosh do just that off the dribble from the top of key....flying illini barely topped out 6'6 across the board but had great run and jump athletes
