Mav has slowly become the poster child for player development. Probably even more so after next season. If Mav somehow makes another big leap and actually gets a shot at the league, that could be a big recruiting tool.

The blue bloods were always going to be involved due to Tilmon's potential. I think we're in a lucky position with Tilmon being extremely raw which decreases the priority and pressure from those guys. Kansas already has a big and raw center coming in with Azubuike and he doesn't seem like a one and done player so Tilmon may have some competition for playing time. I would hope that big men are a bit hesitant to commit to Kansas if they're looking for immediate playing time. Still, the chances of landing him decrease the longer he takes with his decision.

This

If we want to go after bigger fish we will have to compete with the likes of Kansas. We are still closer. We are still more likely to have a friend or 2. If he chooses to be part of our 2017 class it will be a very good class around him. We still have a huge gaping hole at 5 that offers playing time. This isn't over either way by any means.

Trent Frazier, CG, Wellington Wolves, 2017: Frazier struggled finding his shot over the weekend, but that didn’t stop him from putting up big numbers each time out. The 6-foot-2 combo guard has a knack for getting buckets at Suwanee Sports Academy, and this week was no different. He used his speed and crafty finishing ability to score at the rim with defender draped all over him. In fact, he exploded for 21 second-half points to win a game late Saturday night, including a 3 at the buzzer to seal the win. - Garrett Tucker

Did Bill Self "put" Cliff Alexander in the NBA? Or did he get there despite Self? By and large Kansas "puts" players in the NBA because they were great players when they got to Kansas. There's nothing magical about what Kansas does other than recruit better high school players than most places.

Self didn't do Cliff any favors, but one guy isn't going to change his reputation, either.

I wouldn't underestimate the advantages KU type programs have over us. Groce is a great recruiter, but the program is in the dumps. If a rival program had our last 3 seasons, can you imagine what we'd be saying about them?

In this case, Self didn't help as Cliff wasn't even drafted. The other thing is that it seems, other than the Morris twins, most KU guys have not had much of an impact in the NBA. Xavier Henry struggled, Cole Aldrich, even the great Thomas Robinson and the list goes on. The fact that a MCDAA and top 5 recruit barely played in Cheick Diallo, does not seem favorable. Wayne Seldon, who should be a beast, didn't really have much of impact until this past year and still disappeared in games.

The issue is that recruits have not looked at it this way.

2017 6’6” Terrence Lewis – Playground Elite
Lewis was a consistent headliner in the 17U Association division this past weekend. There’s no question as to if he’s a good scorer, but rather, just how good he can become. Lewis can score from the post with a turnaround against smaller, less physical guards and wings. Additionally his quick release makes him a threat the second he catches the ball. If you don’t close out, limit his space or make him catch the ball further away from the spot he intended to, his shot is going up and stands a strong chance of going down. - See more at: http://www.ny2lasports.com/article_one.aspx?articleid=3448#sthash.1dAUEd6Z.dpuf

Terrence Lewis – 2017 – SF – Playground Elite
We’ve always loved Lewis’ ability to contribute across the board and he backed that up in a big way over the weekend as Playground Elite went a perfect 4-0 in Minneapolis. Lewis led the league in floor impact (28.0) and was two points higher (26.0) than the next closest player on the list. Over the weekend, Lewis averaged 22.5 points per game, while shooting 55.9 percent from the field. An improved three-point shooter, Lewis connected at a 52.2 percent clip from downtown. His huge weekend led to a new offer from UAB. - See more at: http://www.ny2lasports.com/article_one.aspx?articleid=3449#sthash.hIiAM8qI.dpuf

Wow. Tilmon recruitment is really heating up....

"@prepbullseye
LMAO at dimwits saying Jeremiah Tilmon's recruitment is heating up. It's more like it never died down. And yes, there's lots of competition."

Further proof that Roy gets his intel from this board :D

These other coaches must not be aware that Tilmon already gave us a silent verbal.

Right? I mean, didn't they see the :hailtotheorange:

He's probably just using them to make his commitment to us an even bigger deal. Right guys?

Impact in the NBA or not, there have been 9 first round draft picks out of Kansas since 2010. That is a lot of cheddar.

Is there really still confusion as to why these kids pick blue bloods over Illinois? Still?

After the last couple years I even had a hard time setting my "My Player"'s college to Illinois in NBA 2k career mode, thought it would hurt my draft position.

Lewis has quickly joined the "must get" category with Tilmon and Goodwin IMO. Athlete with long arms, plays tough, sharp shooter, and slasher? Yes please.

Yep... another prospect that JFG found early and is now blossoming. Hope Illinois can lock him up quickly before he gets too much attention!!!

I think throughout the course of his tenure, Groce has certainly done a great job of identifying talent before they blow up. Now if we could just close on a few more...
