If any of those schools that visited Tilmon offer Goodwin, then we I think it's time to start moving our collective hand towards the panic button. Also, I think Frazier will have a Evans/Gilbert type of rise over the next year. He looks special.

Illinois may still be in play for Goodwin but I have officially moved on from Tilmon. Following Illini hoops recruiting should require that the panic button is stapled to your forehead.

Did you move on because the blue bloods got involved? I don't think I've heard of a 5 star center that didn't get major interest from blue bloods.

Maybe it happens but I can't rationally expect that kid to pick Illinois. We can't even find our way into the tournament. If I were a 5 star recruit and had a choice of schools, I think I would pick one that is more likely to be in the final four than the NIT or CBI. Add in all the off the court stuff and I am not sure what you're pitch is. Things are going to change even though nothing has changed.

If this were completely the truth, then Whitman should have fired Groce immediately. For whatever reason, he apparently doesn't think we are at that point yet. I don't disagree with your comments, but it's funny how other schools are on probably, have issues like this or are poor programs and suddenly land great classes. It's not like it can't be done.

Yea look at UNC and the shadow over them and the debacle at KU with Cliff didn't stop Ppl from committing to those schools.

Not even in the same stratosphere as comparing to what is happening at Illinois. A blue blood like KU, which has won their conference for more than a decade, regularly a main feature in college basketball, with a HOF coach, sending players regularly to the NBA, has a player ineligible because of parents contact with agent vs. Illinois in the state we are in right now, with 3 consecutive years of not even making the NCAA, irrelevant in college basketball in the last decade, having 4 players facing problems with the law, 3 of them still facing charges. Totally apples and oranges.

If you were a five star recruit and did not think you could turn an NIT team into a dancing team....I question if you are a 5 star recruit.

playing for the state school, playing with IL guys / some being friends, playing close to home, being the starter from day one, and being a part of what could end up being a program changing class.. Which in turn should lead to ncaa tourneys. These are the selling points.. as I'm sure you're well aware. Plus the fact that he winds up in the nba no matter what college he attends.

Is this more appealing than what others are selling? We'll see.

You have to take everything Obelix says with the knowledge that he is a Kansas fan and will take every opportunity to talk up his beloved Jayhawks.

Totally agree just saying even with the problems they were facing they still recrutied at a high level , prospects didn't shy away from committing just hoping we get the same evaluation.

Yeah... when an argument fails you and you have no supporting facts, evidence, or information to support your position and you are totally incapable of carrying a conversation, then just accuse a poster of being a fan of another team. That may earn you some brown-nose points with another fellow poster.

Which is actually kind of funny because the poster that you try to kiss up to, was not even responding to me.

I agree, my point is that it is a lot more difficult to compete against blue bloods in recruiting when you face off-court problems that are even higher in magnitude than the problems they had faced. It is hard enough to recruit against them to begin with, our off-court problems have elevated the difficulty.

Personally, I am sticking with what someone close to Tilmon's recruitment told me before his injury, when many people on this board were in general euphoria of an imminent commitment: "Illinois is in good shape, but expect Tilmon to take visits."

Is there really still confusion as to why these kids pick blue bloods over Illinois? Still?

After the last couple years I even had a hard time setting my "My Player"'s college to Illinois in NBA 2k career mode, thought it would hurt my draft position.

Confusion in some cases yes. Playing time just seems to not matter to some kids, that confuses me. If Carlton Bragg/Cliff Alexander would of came here, they would of got 30+ mins. a game. Playing against great big men in the Big 10 is going to make you a better pro prospect than sitting the bench at Kansas. I would argue Kansas stunted the growth of Alexander's game.

Yet Cliff is still making 1.4 million over this year and next. Would it have worked out here, probably. But when you point to Self's biggest failure on why a kid should come to Illinois and you look and see he is still earning an NBA paycheck it's a tough sell.
