I have seen Tim Finke a few times, and really like him. But an explosive leaper he is not.

I guess it's all relative. I mean, you're right in that he's not going to win any dunk contests. However, if you look at 0:10, 0:21, 0:35, and 1:45 in the video linked below, he can get off the ground pretty well. I think I said, "pretty explosive leaper," which I'll stand by. I think he'll continue to develop as an athlete. No issue with your disagreement, though - I'm sometimes prone to hyperbole.

I agree. JCL scared me every time I me he put the ball on the floor. I don't see PG in his future unless he dramatically improves his handles and passing.
Don't know if he'll play PG but his passing has already improved and handles are very likely to improve significantly also. I don't mind him staying behind the arc though. I expect he'll finish as U of I all time 3P shooting leader before its all over.

Can someone give me a scouting report on Tim Finke? All I know is he doesn't have the size of his big bro and is more of a sg/sf type. Sounds like his ranking is quite a bit higher as well. That's all i know. Anyone care to give a run down of strengths/weaknesses?

He's at least 6'6" and could still grow some more. He needs work on his handle, but he has the ability to light it up from deep. He plays under control and doesn't force anything. He plays with a good motor and will still be playing defense and blocking shots in the waning seconds of a game even if his team is up double digits. He has average athleticism at this point, but that could change as he grows into his body.

For anybody who has their Saturday free and is close to Riverside-Brookfield high school, Henricksen's tourney is always a good one. Most of the major AAU teams are there and a lot of teams not on the major circuits but still featuring a lot of good players participate. Schedule in the article.

Cool, is there an admission fee and if so, how much?

Rivals150 power forward slowing things down

If you are looking for players in the class of 2017 that look physically ready for the jump to high-end Division One basketball, Rivals150 power forward Theo John is high up the list.

A physically imposing 6-foot-8, 230-pounder at Champlin Park (Minn.) High who currently checks in at No. 119 overall in the junior class, John is a rugged post player with a high major future.

While John is physically tough, crashes the glass and plays excellent positional defense, he's set out to prove this spring with his Howard Pulley grassroots team that he can be relied upon for some offense.

He visited Oklahoma officially in April and says that Illinois and Marquette are likely to receive official visits. Nearby Minnesota is a program that he's gotten to know quite well and Nebraska has been active. Florida, UCLA, Purdue and Arizona State have reached out this spring.

An Ohio State take on recruiting Tim Finke.
http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-...illinois-ties-to-land-2018-prospect-tim-finke
But the Illini, by all accounts, are the heavy favorite in Finke’s recruitment even though he says there may not be a clear-cut leader at this point in time. After all, Finke said he’s not in any hurry to make a decision as he’ll only be a high school junior next season
Interesting they talk about the Eagles and mention Darius Garland, but not Goodwin.

I do agree that it's all relative, but the bottom line is that Tim Finke is a really good player (we both agree), so use of specific adjectives is less of an issue.

The thing that I really like about Tim Finke is that he already has excellent fundamentals. Not only is there no aspect of his game that is lacking, but he is very good at almost everything and has a complete game. He has very good basketball IQ, good passer, good handles for his size, pretty good quickness, and very good shooter.

I think his shooting will also set him apart in college. He is the epitome of the new generation of shooters (good form and very quick release) rather than a purist (i.e., two stage, high elevation and release at highest point, e.g., Ray Allen). The advantage is that Tim Finke can get his shot off very quickly without needing much space.

I agree that Tim Finke has a very good chance to become a McD AA, I'd be surprised if he is not. I actually believe if he was more "explosive," he would be a top 5-10 player, not just a McD AA candidate. Independent of Michael Finke, I hope we do get him. An excellent player, worthy of the multiple scholarship offers he will get.

I think Tim Finke will continue to grow and possibly in the the Michael Dunleavy category. Anthony Davis is not a comparison I would make even he grew to 6-10. From the limited video I have seen Finke appears to have a high motor and quick accurate shot.

Appears to cut well towards the basket, can pass, shoot, and dribbling with size. Probably will play the SG/WF in college.

I just saw Mike Dunleavy Jr. down at JazzFest in New Orleans, he's rail thin, but he loves crawfish. He's also a much better comparison for a 6-9 Tim Finke than Anthony Davis.

How about another white-on-white comparison: Brent Barry?

I'm thinking along the lines of a Steve Nash/Dan Majerle/Rik Smits hybrid

I know that we aren't in the running for Michael Porter, Jr., but I would be willing to bet he will be heading to Washington as his dad just accepted an assistant coaching position with them.

Romar is Jontay's godfather. I don't think this is a lock to Washington for him. The younger siblings are all home schooled and I believe everyone will be moving to Washington with Dad. I think you see Mike end up at a prep school next year. Which school will be telling to what he's thinking imo. I hate to say it but Kansas just became more of a possibility.

Markell Johnson having difficulty getting re-classified to 2016. IMO, staff has backed off.
