It seems the only top 5 ranked team that is really struggling as of now is USC. They are tied for 5th right now in their regional with Texas A&M. Stanford is absolutely dominating their regional.

Maverick McNealy, their top guy, has to be out for some revenge in this year's tournament. Last year in the stroke play portion of the championship he shot a first-round 78 and Stanford missed the cut for match play.

Can someone tell me why there are individual players shown on the individual leader board from schools not listed on the team leader board?

There are individual qualifiers from teams that did not qualify for the NCAA Tournament. These players do not have any effect on team scores or positioning other than on the individual championship chase.

Got it. So these individuals would be paired up with the 5th man from the team and/or one another? Which is held first, NCAA Team Championship or NCAA Individual Championship? Team I would assume?

They're playing as threesomes, so the 10 individuals are going out with players from the last place team from round 2 (Memphis)

Both. :)

The finals are 72 holes. There's a cut after 54 holes down to the top 15 teams plus top 9 individuals not on any of those teams. Then the last round is used to determine the individual champ as well as the top 8 teams that will move on to the match play finals.

I'm on the edge of my seat here wondering if Idaho can hang on and advance....

So we have 5 guys, who is the 6th in the second group?

So simultaneous even then. Interesting.

That would be a great story for them!

Appreciate all the info guys! :thumb:

Oh, I wrongly assumed we played together, not with other players from other teams. I'm new to college golf so bear with me. It's starting to make sense. :D

Ah, no problem. :D

Have to play with the other teams to keep each other honest. And it's part of competing, too.

But as a side note, it's even more impressive that Illinois is playing so well today, because the teams they are paired with (SDSU and Kent St) are really struggling. That can be a challenge, playing alongside another guy who's having a tough time.

The last several holes of play must be brutal as all 3 top teams are shooting over par.

Rough back nine for Lipparelli. That's the only name I don't recognize - is he a freshman?

Illinois is likely shooting the best round of day two. Let's see if there is another big run in them tomorrow. Detry is playing very good golf while Hardy has been off.

Wednesday starts with a frost delay.
Illini sitting in 2nd place.
Very good odds to advance.

I'll be more interested in seeing if Idaho can make it. And at some other sites - USC has a battle on their hands to stay in the top 5 in Albuquerque. Not much drama in Tuscaloosa or Tuscon. Defending champs LSU need a good round to stay in the top 5 at Franklin. Good chance of an unseeded team making the top 5 in Stillwater.

All teams seem to be coming out hot early on. Sidenote: Illinois is even for the day, but have just begun.

Looks like kind of a rough front nine. Dropped down to 4th as of now but it would take a real disaster to fall out of the top 5. Idaho looks like they will make it through as they are playing well again today. Arkansas really solidifying their spot.

Would be fun to be following one of those Idaho-Baylor-Arkansas pairings as Idaho and Baylor duke it out for the final spot. Only 4 strokes difference right now, so it could definitely come down to the wire. Just moved to 5 strokes as I wrote this.

Just moved into second at -9. 11 shots clear of 6th place Baylor (+2). Looking good to qualify barring a major disaster on the last 5-8 holes
