Not really a 4 star by any stretch (See below).
And I doubt he can help much for 2017.
Groce is fighting for his job and it comes down to recruits. If all we getting are a group of Top 125-200 kids we are looking at several more years of missing the tourney. Groce needs to move on if he can't recruit at a high level after 5 years.

Right now we have zero Top 100 players since DaMonte is now struggling.

Here are a few other service rankings for Frazier. There are no other High D1 schools who have offered, unless you want to count Weber. :hand:

He is 116 on 247
He is 114 on Verbal Commits
He is 146 on Rivals
He is unranked on ESPN
He is unranked in Future 150

Actually 247 ranks him 161 and a 3 star, that 116 is his national composite number which is only that high due to his Scout & VC ranking.

But I agree, outside of KSU and us, his offer list is a lot of LIU, MTS, Florida Atlantic etc.

ps - it's not like I want to pile on the kid, but he left Nike South Beach on the EYBL circuit halfway through because he was only getting about 5-10 minutes a game through the first couple of sessions. He's a kid you look to be a big part of the rotation his jr/sr year.

It's still extremely early to give up hope for the 2017 class. Frazier isn't the biggest priority, but he'd be a great addition. We've struggled to land point guards the past few years, it's hard to complain about getting top 150 guys at the position in back to back years.. and that's not even including DW.

Pretty sure Baylor, Florida, Miss State, and K State offered him.

Getting Frazier would be A-OK. He's ranked about where Te'Jon Lucas was and looks like about the same caliber of player. He's quick, can shoot, nice ball handler, good athlete. He's got respectable length and can play on or off the ball. If you start piling up guys like him and Te'Jon, along with boom-bust prospects like Da'Monte, one of these guys is going to play above his ranking and turn out to be an all-conference type (maybe not one of THESE guys specifically, but a low-4/high-3 star player that doesn't have the hype filling his sails). These aren't sure things like Paul Scruggs or Tugs Bowen, but they're talented kids who have a chance to be special.

I'd hate it if we missed out on Goodwin, Lewis, Eastern, et al by taking Frazier, but let's be honest: after the last few years, you don't say no to a top-150 kid at a position of need.

Thanks. I glanced at it and sometimes I miss the various ways they present their data.

I am sure he can play some ball at D1 at some point, but we need some impact recruits. This will not get us out of the lower division and we will struggle to make the tourney with a team of 3 stars.

Five observations from the NBPA Top 100 Camp

1. There is a big lack of point guards in 2017
After seeing a lot of high-level point guards enter the Class of 2016 (and into college basketball this season) the Class of 2017 just doesn’t have the same crop of floor leaders. While the Class of 2017 has some good high-end guards for elite programs, the depth in the class just isn’t very strong. We’ve already seen certain schools adjust their planning to recruit point guards since there doesn’t look to be as many as a lot of races for elite floor leaders have heated up before July. Schools will be scouring for point guards in July, but there might not be enough legitimate options for high-major programs.

UPDATE ON 2018 PG COURTNEY RAMEY
Antonio Curro — National Recruiting Editor - NY2LASPORTS.COM

A plus length wiry lead guard with skill, instincts, and feel, Ramey is a 6-3 165 pound talent who can contribute across the board. A solid instinctual defender, Ramey can disrupt things on the defensive end with deflections and his ability to anticipate and jump the passing lanes for steals. On the offensive end he’s a mix bag of skills as he can score at each level, create in transition and half court sets, etc. A highly regarded point guard for some time, Ramey’s best basketball lies ahead and the talented lead guard seems primed once again for a huge month of July.

Throw in a 72 Scout ranking and Frazier is definitely a top 150 player. Rankings aside, which should probably be taken with a grain of salt, he's an athletic lefty with true point guard skills and a good outside shot. We don't pass on that. And just because Damonte had a lackluster Spring doesn't make him any worse a player. His talent and potential didn't disappear because he's technically not ranked in the top 100 anymore.

Sure- he might be Top 150 when all is said and done.
A class of those type players is not going to get it done, though.

Commitable vs. Not - This seems to come up every so often around here!

Not all offers r commitable. Also, coaches say "we'd love to have u here." Handlers/prospects interpret as offer.

Title‏@Title_BU 3h3 hours ago
@jerrymeyer247 @Brein789698 - Not to mention outright lies to feign demand with a hope of 'tricking' others into seeing something as well.

There's no denying that handlers, coaches & prospects do this. Wouldn't say epidemic in nature but isn't irregular.

Basketball recruiting has a language all its own with plenty of nuances and subtexts.

Jeff Bidwell ‏@AKAJeffBidwell 3h3 hours ago Hendron, KY
@jerrymeyer247 I talked to a college coach yesterday about a list of kids he had "offered." He said he had never heard of 25% of them.

Jerry Meyer ‏@jerrymeyer247 3h3 hours ago
Had numerous coaches say to me when asked if they had offered a prospect: "No, not really but it's good they think we have." Cuts both ways.

stacey‏@stlyme 3h3 hours ago
@jerrymeyer247 try and commit on the spot and a player will see how real that offer is

Jerry Meyer ‏@jerrymeyer247 3h3 hours ago

That would be the ultimate test

Jerry Meyer ‏@jerrymeyer247 3h3 hours ago
Always funny how handlers & AAU coaches are regularly maligned while college coaches are upstanding professionals in society. #2toTango

Jerry Meyer ‏@jerrymeyer247 3h3 hours ago
N general have found grassroots people of whatever kind more real, reliable, honest than college assistant coaches w some notable exceptions

Irony: fans want offers flying around. Criticize staffs while they r showing integrity, making sure fit is right 4 offer. Transfer epidemic?

Haha--not all offers are commitable.!!!

Sorry, but "great" addition looks like a real stretch from here. Beating out Middle TN and North FL doesn't often leave you with a good Big Ten team. See Illini Football.

He has an offer from Baylor.

It's really not a stretch. If you want an athletic long point guard who can score, distribute, run the floor, excell in transition and knock down 3's that would be Frazier. If running a 2 point guard lineup is your thing, Frazier isn't a shabby option with his skill set.

He's got some growing up to do physically and may not be a world breaker out of the gates but he has a lot of potential.

Another excellent example of a "non commitable" offer. Baylor has 8 other PG "offers" out and 5 of those are much higher rated guys than Frazier.

Illinois has offers out to higher ranked guards, too. Does that make Illinois' offer an uncommittable one, too?

Dont know the answer on uncommitable, but try offering only to top 50 players and see where that gets you.... unless your school is in Lexington or Durham of course, then it may work.

Agree. Just wondering how Illinois was different than Baylor.
