I started to read that article before I noticed it was Haugh. Was almost mad that it was him saying nice things about UI. I had to stop hating him for a minute.

Where's the MOB article?? For that matter Shannon Ryan needs to step forward now that UI has done the right thing.

There's also a staunch minority on the Rivals board who didn't want Kendrick dismissed, for whatever that's worth.

Just joined that board a few months ago, man that board is really negative and combative. Combes is often the voice of reason :)

Sounds like you are surprised? Lol

MOB doesn't cover college sports and although he did tweet about JT being reinstated, he's not tweeted anything about Kendrick. Neither has Smith, any of the Irvins or anybody involved with Meanstreets. I take this to mean that even if they don't like it, they understand why it was done.

Ryan wrote the main Trib article the day it occurred and agreed with a tweet of Haugh's and gave credit to Whitman and Groce (the comments after Haugh's original tweet about Ryan's original article.) For those paranoid Illini fans among us, no sane, intelligent journalist in Chicago has had anything negative to say about this. Not so much with stupid ones (I'm looking at you Rosenbloom).

ps - Ryan was on Tay and J the day of the dismissal and was very praiseworthy of the decision.

Haven't commented about this yet, but I totally agree with the decision to dismiss Kendrick from the team. Like those on here, I enjoyed watching him play. Hope he learns from this and still has a positive life.

I think what stood out to me is how Groce and Whitman let the legal process work itself out first, then announced their decision. That was the right move. Being trigger happy would have been unprofessional and would have made me question the Illini Athletic Department even more.

Following this, I believe Whitman has done a great job since taking over the reins. I think the Athletic Department is in good hands with him.

FWIW, Tate has reported that the dismissal came from above JW's level. Doesn't really matter. I think it was the right decision. I'm curious to see where Nunn lands. Will he sit or transfer down. How close to graduating is he? Could he be a grad transfer by fall and play right away? Wish him the best, regardless.

He may just forego college ball and go pro (Europe).

Oakland University in the Horizon League, right?

Greg Kampe, HC @ Oakland did a very good job of developing Khalid Felder into the POY for the Horizon League. Felder is considered a sleeper in the draft.

He sits for a year, correct?

He'll sit for a year and play in 2017-18. At the MAC level with a team that plays as fast as Oakland (they led the entire NCAA in points per game last year; top 10 in scoring three out of the last six years; top 40 seven out of the last eight), Kendrick could put up 25 ppg. He'll likely have a perpetual green light to shoot from anywhere.

I wish KN nothing but luck and an opportunity to keep his life on a positive path.

And for the totally meaningless Simeon alum fact of the day, Derrick Rose is switching back to his Simeon number of 25. He never wore that in Memphis (#23) or Chicago (#1).

Former Simeon star and #Illini Kendrick Nunn will be heading to #Oakland to finish his college career.

This story is just sad all around. The domestic charges will always travel with him (and the victim) which is a bad place to start.

Beyond the personal issues that the incident has caused, Nunn is going to be losing one of his prime "earning" years by sitting out as a transfer. If Nunn is healthy, he has a window from today until some point in his 30's to bankroll his future. He will never get this year back. As other posters suggested, it might have not been a bad play to start earning in Europe and get the degree online.

I don't know if this is the case with Nunn but some players have an NBA or bust mentality and are more than willing to give the d-league a shot for a couple years before looking at other options. Europe isn't for everyone.

If Nunn does not violate the terms of probation, the "domestic charges" will be completely erased from his record.
His spending two years with Kampe will help him immensely. As previously mentioned, Kampe took a 2*/NR recruit and turned him into the Horizon League POY. Our staff has not developed anyone to that degree.

Sounds like Kahlil was always pretty talented, even in high school but that schools didn't think that a 5'9" scoring guard's game would translate well to the next level. They were wrong, but Kampe took the risk. Would he have done the same at other schools? Possibly, we can't be too sure. I just don't know if this is a case where a player was developed well by the coaching staff, or if the player just showcased his already acquired talents, maybe in the same vein as Cooper with Groce.

I have done no research to back this up but I'm willing to bet that the majority of Horizon League POY winners were 2*/NR recruits.
