Looks like Batshuayi will be joining Chelsea tomorrow. Marseilles wasn't budging from the 40 million Euro price tag. Spurs weren't willing to go there, but deep pockets Abramovich did.

hopefully this spells the end of costa at chelsea. maybe even remy could be bought on the cheap.

Don't understand this. Conte's just starting at Chelsea. Why would bringing in Batshuayi be his end? $44M E is a lot, but they needed to up the ante to beat out Palace. Abramovich isn't going to suffer through another season like the past one.

I don't think Batshuayi has any intention of going to Palace. He has stated that he wants Champions League. He's not going to get it at either place this season, but Chelsea has a much better shot than Palace in future years.

For sure. Think the Palace thing was just to send a very strong signal that he's ready to move on to greener pastures. It worked.

It's frustrating, as Batshuayi has said multiple times that he wanted to go to Spurs. He wanted Spurs, Spurs wanted him, and Marseilles has to sell him because of their financial situation. Still, Levy always has to feel like he's getting a bargain or in some way wins the negotiaion. And, because of that, the player ends up heading to another team.

Agree on the frustration, but I can't ever see us shelling out 40M€ for a player, especially one that wouldn't even be the first choice striker. Most I would have seen us spend on Bats was maybe 30M€.

I think the dutch kid Janssen we've been linked with be a good fit with the price we're willing to pay for a second choice striker. Plays similar to Kane to so would be a natural fit into the squad rotations.

costa, not conte.

Probably not. There were rumors of him wanting to go back to Atletico but Chelsea have too many other weaknesses so they wouldn't let Costa go unless someone overpays. And Atletico won't do that.

Conte likes to play with 2 forwards. Costa and Michy together would be fun to watch.

Almost sounded like you were talking about Arsenal for a minute.

Pedro isn't a forward. He'll compete with Willian on the right or he could play on the left if Hazard plays a central role.

I agree about Remy. He can be a very good backup striker on a champions league team. Tottenham comes to mind. Or he could start and score a lot of goals for a mid-table team. He deserves a better opportunity.

Janssen is done. Nice to finally have a backup for Kane.

It really looks like Spurs are pushing hard for Götze. I'm doubtful that it will happen in the end, but it's nice to see them making an effort.

Not sure what role Goetze plays in Pochettino's 4-2-3-1. What I would have left on my Spurs wish list would be a true winger to give an option to get some width going forward, especially on the right (Lamela is sort of that guy on the left). Most of the guys playing in those roles behind the striker are more cut-inside type of players and its left to the fullbacks to provide all the width and crossing. I think an Antonio Valencia-type would really help.

Kante will be Chelsea's very soon and now Mahrez looks to be leaving.

#44
Kante and Conte! This probably means Nemanja Matic is leaving, which is bitter sweet for me. He was amazing 2 years ago, but was pretty much terrible last year. Not sure what happened to him. Maybe one of the conspiracy players that gave up on Mourinho.:noidea:

Chomping at the bit. Miss Saturday and Sunday morning football. Copa America and Euro were great, but we're in the dead zone now. Preseason friendlies and transfer rumors can't fill the void. MLS games are lame compared to EPL games. Can't get into Liga MX. Chomping at the bit.

too many wild transfer rumors. latest arsenal rumor is both mahrez and lacazette!

juve spashing cash for higuain which surely paves the way for pogba to real or man united.

only three more weeks until the season starts!

Oh, the transfer rumors! Lots of BS & click bait.

Arsenal will add, the question is whom. Mahrez seems to be on the fence.

Pogba is moving, but no way is he worth that much. Oh, well, not my problem.

Man I hope we sign Lacazette and Mahrez. Koulibaly would make it a truly great transfer offseason but I am in no way getting my hopes up for any of the 3.

agreed. as long as it's not my club that's splashing that cash, i'm kind of ok with it. the bad part is that it's inflating the transfer market and the prices of other players too.

there's definitely smoke but we'll see what happens. i hope akpom isn't our solution for a backup striker. we signed ozil on the last day so i won't give up hope until september.
