Yes, his dad had a style that always made it look like he wasn't hustling or trying hard, all the while he was mopping the floor with you. Frank just made it look easy and evaluators are discounting DaMonte at their peril.

I saw Damonte in Indiana on the circuit. He honestly looked like the best player on the Fire. Poole was a ball hog most of the time but when Damonte had the ball he made plays. But he didn't like go out of his way to take games over which I believe he should've. Kinda like a DJ Williams would.

Groce is in the ATL area. Lots of recruits playing there.

What tournament(s) specifically? Been a while since I have popped in an AAU tournament. Would love to run into Groce again also.

Unless something changes, I am fairly certain Goodwin will not pick a school until 2017.

I was told the same thing last weekend. There is an offer he still wants, from a certain midwestern Big 12 school. This could not have been the offer Tilmon was talking about in that video though,

Similar to Nojel Eastern on Meanstreets, IMO: both are clearly very skilled and athletic, but other players with alpha personalities tend to dominate the ball and both DMW and Eastern are content to make the extra pass and pick their spots. The result is that both guys disappear for long stretches. I don't think it will be the same at the next level for either (although I also don't think either kid is likely to be a big time college scorer). Both have the potential to be #2/#3 options on P5 teams. I'm hoping that Da'Monte will start for us as an upperclassman, whether at PG or SG, and put up a line around 13-15 ppg, 4-5 reb, 3-4 ast, 1.5 stl. That's a borderline all-conference type of player, which I think is attainable given his natural ability.

After the initial euphoria following Tilmon's commitment, several posters have cautioned that Goodwin is nowhere near a decision. If that's indeed the case and he holds out until spring for blueblood offers, what does the staff do in the meantime? If they lock up another ball handler (Scruggs/Frazier/Allen/new name), what happens if Eastern and Justin Smith want to commit?

I feel like Goodwin is the #1 player on their board and someone they'd make room for almost no matter what, but I don't think you can take 5 guys in one class who may very well turn out to be primarily wing players. Do you tell Goodwin it's now or never - you just can't turn down commitments from top-75 players? Sorry - don't mean to fall into the idiotic trap of "how will we find scholarships for all the top-100 players who want to commit?!?" With the way this class is stacking up, though, getting Goodwin to pull the trigger soon seems unusually crucial.

It's sounding like Goodwin wants to blow up as much as possible before announcing. I'm nervous about his recruitment dragging out, but this is basically what Tilmon did. He said verbatum "He wanted to see how much he blows up". It's crazy to think a week ago this kind of thinking was a complete fantasy.

Do we know which events the staff is attending? And more importantly which players?

Many recruits say they are waiting, few actually do it. I'd also be willing to bet that he won't take all five visits.

Regardless of Goodwin's likelihood of committing to Illinois soon (or at all), what kind of statistical impact do you think he'll have at the collegiate level? Obviously some of it is scheme-dependent. I was just thinking about his motor and rebounding prowess, along with his elite (for a wing) passing ability and wondering how it will hold up when he's going against bigger, stronger, quicker players. Here's my guess:

As a freshman: 9 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl, 44% fg, 25% 3pt (0.3 made threes/game), 26 min/game

As a senior: 16 pts, 7 reb, 4 ast, 1.5 stl, 47% fg, 30% 3pt (1.2 made threes/game), 32 min/game

I think he'll be an all-conference player as an upperclassman and a high-level contributor all four years.

Edit: I actually think there's a very good chance he does quite a bit better than that as a freshman - maybe like 12/6/3. Could vary a lot depending on the situation. The original guess is on the conservative side given how physically mature he is and his competitiveness.

If we take 6 in '017, that would mean no ships in 2018 unless their is some attrition. I can't get my arms around that.

There is always attrition (well 99% of the time). You take everyone who can help you for immediate future. That means Goodwin, a PG, and another PF/C. Open rides down the line should never be a worry.

My guess is you'll still have 1-2 rides for '18. I'd love to have three for Finke, Cart'r'ye and one of the PGs, but that's not likely.

This could be a major reason why little Finke is keeping an open mind about which school he wants to attend. There is a solid chance that 1 or 2 scholarships open up allowing Groce to take a PG and Finke in '18. But there is also a chance there is no room or only 1 spot. And if there is only 1 spot I think you have to take 1 of the stud PG's in '18.

Not to mention the glut of wings we'll have. Finke will have stiff competition for playing time.

Evan Flood is a good analyst and good writer. Anyone got anything on Pickett?

3 great '18 PGs in our backyard (not counting Kezo or Gilyard). Going to be difficult to pass on them (even assuming Ayo is out). This will be considered sacrilege, but maybe Finke shouldn't be the #1 priority. Gordon will be a hard pull, but he's gotta be #1, amirite?
I wonder if fans would still consider Finke as a "must get" recruit if he wasn't a legacy from Champaign.

I think or at least hope he could be a better 3 pt shooter than that, at least by the time he's a senior - even if that's not his game. I think 33% would be reasonable.

We just can't get out from under the shadow of that darned Bruce Weber.

33% would be reasonable and make him a respectable threat. That's about what DJ Richardson shot, right? If he can develop an outside shot the way Rayvonte did and get anywhere near 40% as an upperclassman, he'll be an elite player (I can't imagine him shooting 44% like Ray did his senior year, but even 37% would make him pretty much unguardable).
