I think it's more like, "extremely athletic combo guard who can score, but needs to add strength, may not be a true PG and is small for a SG, hasn't played in many showcase events, and mysteriously rode the bench this spring with Florida Elite, for whom he's now dominating...which is kind of weird. Why didn't he play more in the spring?"

And that makes more sense. Still though, he's having a great event this week and remains a lead guard with elite quickness and a nose for the basket. His performance this week is reassuring to me. Hopefully it leads to a little bump in the rankings.

It was Nike South Beach on EYBL circuit where he never saw the floor, left the team and went back to his Wellington team, which played mostly in camps. He's been on Florida Elite for only the last 2 weekends.

I'm trying to figure this out as well. There has to be some downside beyond not playing in bigger showcase tournaments. I find it hard to believe that this message board knows more about an "extremely athletic floor general with great leadership qualities who can score" than coaches who livelihoods depend on knowing these type of things.

His frame needs to fill out. No shocker there, and that's why we have Fletcher. It's very exciting to think about what he can do with players who are already plus athletes. We think we like Fletcher now... we might be head over heels when guys like DJW and hopefully Frazier are jumping out of the gym in a couple years :)

Haven't heard of our coaches following some of our other bigs. I believe Groce was down to see Kiir a week ago. Obviously we pursued Tilmon, but he missed summer ball. Really like to get Derek Culver, he just appears to be a skilled big man with all the physical tools. Ranked near 30-45 range, but he looks like a player who could develop to the next level.

Great summary along with your other post. Even if there is some legit reason, it seems to be escaping our staff and the people watching the events. Our staff may also see the issue but be OK with it. As you suggest, most likely issue would be that he doesn't have legit PG instincts and is more of a SG in reality. High school stats suggest otherwise to a degree, but there has to be something..

That's right. My bad.

Maybe it's the 4 High Schools he's been to. Oh wait that was somebody else. J/K:)

So, TCT, it's fair to say that you remain skeptical about Frazier, right? You've indicated a few times that you think we have a good shot with Scruggs and possibly Thomas Allen. If we don't land either of them, are you in favor of passing on Frazier and pushing hard for someone like Eastern who may be able to play some PG?

Zach Cooks pumped in 20 points in a one-point morning with for the Southern Stampede. The Lilburn (GA) Berkmar guard has enjoyed a productive July. He recently picked up an offer from NJIT. The Stampede have drawn quite the crowd this week at the Best of the South.

So, one of the other sites is suggesting that Groce may leave one open scholarship for 2018 (i.e. sign a 5 player class for 2017). However, I have a hard time seeing him leave an open scholly, especially when we will be a little thin in the frontcourt in 2017.

I could see Groce take 2 of Goodwin, Frazier and Scruggs (whoever commits first) and then go "all-in" on some BIG fish like Wilkes or Malik Williams. If he doesn't get either, then so be it, sign some 5th year senior for depth and you still have the scholly open for 2018.

I mean, if you already have a great class shaping up, why not shoot for the moon with the last scholly. You've really got nothing to lose.

Even if he isn't able to attack the basket as effectively against Big 10 opponents, Frazier is still a very good outside shooter who would be a tremendous complement to Te'jon, Da'monte, and Goodwin. I think we could see all 4 of them assuming the lead guard role at different times while the others play off the ball. The biggest question mark with Frazier (as with most freshmen) is his readiness to defend at this level.

Trent Frazier is cold blooded. Florida Elite pulls out the W. Brought it on both ends. Kid has the it factor. Going to win alot of games

I do not believe you will see Goodwin as the PG. I have watched him multiple times, really like him a lot, but he is a wing player. He will not be a PG in college. At the HS/AAU level, he often posts up down low at the PF position, but I do not think he will see time at PF either, although I expect that we may run some plays were we isolate him underneath to post up on other wings. Goodwin plays like a bull.

Only watched a few clips, but would Brandon Jennings be a good comp for Frazier? Seems similar in build, but it might just be that lefty stroke.
