Mentions a lot of schools. When taking about coaches he has best relationship with he mentioned Jay Wright, Groce, Crean. Xavier and Villanova seemed to be the first schools mentioned generally. Michigan and Stanford next.

Assuming Frazier is as good as Groce (and we) hope/think he is, I like the relatively sparse offer list. Maybe he comes in with a chip on his shoulder, feeling like nobody else gave him much respect. If he does in fact blow up, then Groce and Illinois look like we can develop players and spot stars, and if he doesn't, no big deal, he was "only a 3-star player".

Luckily he's not likely to be a 3 star. We'll see, currently only a 4 star according to Scout. If he ends up being viewed as a 3 star by most of the services 6 months from now, that would be a bad omen to me.

You can get lucky with 3 stars and unlucky with 4 stars, but I tend to have faith in the collective rankings on the whole. Higher % chance that he is a future big ten impact player if he ends up regarded as a unanimous 4 star by all services when this is said and done.

My hope is that he is a unanimous 4 star that simply took much longer than normal to be recognized by most (but not UI).

I do not believe you will see Goodwin as the PG. I have watched him multiple times, really like him a lot, but he is a wing player. He will not be a PG in college. At the HS/AAU level, he often posts up down low at the PF position, but I do not think he will see time at PF either, although I expect that we may run some plays were we isolate him underneath to post up on other wings. Goodwin plays like a bull.
I didn't say he'd be a PG, but I do think he will be a player that initiates the offense on a regular basis and facilitates for teammates.

Sounds like (from our incredibly limited information), Wright isn't that interested, Verge and Negron are not major priorities for the staff, and Lewis may or may not still be in play. I'd love to get Lewis. Not sure I'd take him over Justin Smith, but either one would be a great get.
This pretty much sums up my thoughts. We haven't heard much about Lewis lately, Negron seems like a last resort, and Verge has seemed like a long shot from the beginning. I'd also love to get Lewis but until we hear more about him in the context of Illinois, there's not much to talk about.

I also agree with the comment suggesting we take Lewis if he wants to commit before Goodwin.

It seems clear to me that the staff wants a ball handler with one of the remaining three scholarships (Scruggs/Frazier/Allen). I can't quite tell whether they want two of Goodwin, Eastern, Smith, and Lewis, or if they'd only take one and save the last scholly for a big, a 5-star, or a 5th-year. Essentially, do they see Eastern, Smith, and Lewis as backup plans if Goodwin goes elsewhere or waits too long, or do they see those guys as good enough to forego better roster balance and/or a guaranteed ride for 2018? I know that Smith and possibly Lewis profile as potential small ball 4s, but they're clearly natural wings.

No, Brandon Jennings, the unanimous #1 player in his class and maybe the quickest basketball player on planet earth, is not a good comp.

The point of comparisons is to take a lesser known player and compare his style and technique with that of a better known player. No one is saying will Frazier turn into Jennings but rather Are they both lefties who flat out score and thrive off of pick and roll.

Good comparisons allow people a general idea of how the player plays not how good he will be

ESPN also has him as a 4 star. Though as Robert points out, we have star inflation these days....

@ALionEye
Did some research on hoops recruiting grade inflation. Used to be 100 4/5 stars. Now:

Rivals: 109 4/5 stars
24/7: 123
Scout: 140
ESPN: 194

Thanks for sharing that, very good to know! So I guess it's best to gauge by the composite score of the recruit.

So if Groce wasn't watching Frazier today, then who is he watching?

I think he's in St. Louis and I 'think' that might be him sitting just beyond the guy standing up down the row in the photo that goes with this tweet. And I 'think' I know who the guy is standing right in front of the camera. Eagle 17u and 16u played games back to back. This guy's twitter feed has a great photo of Wiseman going in for a dunk.

Haha, good one Mike. The guy in the purple shirt in the foreground is a random hot dog vendor. :)

I think we need another PG and a Big Man, another SG, SF(wing), or combo guard is a luxuary. I agree that we take Frazier, Scruggs is very talented but don't want to lose Frazier waiting for Scruggs. Scruggs also reminds me of what Damonte can be with a better motor. Don't need to take duplicate players IMHO.

Would rather get a big than rely on a stretch 4. But we will have Finke, Black, and Tilmon for the next several of years. DJW can also play the 4, especially as he puts on another 15-20 lbs. But would feel much better with another big man (Culver, Kiir).
