Hypothetical... Goodwin picks SLU and Lewis picks ISU, do we take a wing? If Eastern wants it, fine, but do we need to take one. We want at least one ride for 2018 and this would open up a spot for a 5th year, leaving at least one for 18.

Well, technically speaking, wing is the lowest on the "need" totem pole imo as the roster is currently constructed.

If not one of the top wings we are after, I say we go PG and big and best available if need be.

Yeah, I was assuming pg and big, didn't word that well. Just thinking that short of swinging for the fences, Scruggs or Wilkes, might not be bad to look for a fifth year.

No. Maybe someone emerges, but no reach. Transfer or an '18.

Between Goodwin and Justin Smith I'm not sure who will be more of an impact in college. Smith has good height and athleticism for a wing forward, similiar to a Jefferson out of Arizona (2000-1). Goodwin like a mentioned before reminds me of DWade more than any other Illini prep since DWade played at Richards HS.

Smith appears to have the length and atleticism that has given us trouble in the past. Joining Smith with DJ would give us two long WF types.

Two distinctly different players and skill sets.
Either would look really, really good in O&B. They both know they have a spot here if they want it.... Just don't think they do.

Nor do I. But I'd take either in a heartbeat. Prefer Smith.

Just don't want a reach. Bank it and shoot for Ramey and Gordon.

Looks like Scruggs visit with Michigan st cancelled but visits are still scheduled for Illini and UConn

Yeah, but they are an absolute mess and it is going to take a while to dig out from that I think. Getting PT is nice, but not so nice if you are getting whipped every game.

Think UNLV also added the Martin twins from NCState, which should be available in 2017, that should booster both wing positions.

UNLV also loaded up on Chicago area players thanks to the Jeter hire. Ben Coupet (Simeon) and Zion Morgan (Kenwood), Jovan Mooring (Hillcrest) who signed as a JUCO averaged 26 pts a game last year. Jeter's starting point guard at UW-Milwaukee, Jordan Johnson, originally from Waukegan, transferred in and will have to sit out this year, but he was 2nd in the nation in assists last year. Coupet, Morgan and Mooring are all wings and were 3 stars in high school. In fact at one time, Coupet was hyped as the next big thing at Simeon. They also picked up an international 7-footer, no idea how good he is.
They won't be great but they should have a decent team, and lots of playing time available for a big like Kiir if that's what he's looking for right away.

No Smith OV?

I didn't see this posted, but I did see a tweet about it. Seems Smith scheduled his 5 OVs and UI is not one. I realize that's he knows UI pretty well, but like most of us have already come to terms with - looks like that possibility is even more remote than we thought.

I know we can afford to miss on wings, so this isn't panic time. Just give me a PG (Frazier/Scruggs) and another big and I'm good.

Has the meltdown subsided ?? Is it safe to come back and read actual recruiting news ?? JSmith is a long shot IMO but so was JCL until he committed . Love the ebb and flow of recruiting !!
