he was already up there after the OSU fiasco....Trent Frazier will be more valuable that Goodwin at the end of the day...Pickett will be a straight up better player at Goodwins position...

Come on... he didn't get that much worse just because reports are he is leanng the other way now.

So...J-Good is a strong Illini lean throughout this whole process. Then an assistant coach and Ford show up at SLU...and he gets spin (an offer?) he can't refuse. Now he's torn. He thinks, I better at least see the campus before I decide. My guess is he sets up an official to SLU. If he enjoys himself, it's done. If he leaves uncommitted, he's an Illini.

All of this despite a very recent interview where he said he would commit in October. Right...

This is true. For perspective, I graduated HS in 1966. 27 years prior to that would have been 1939. The only athletes from that period or earlier we knew, or cared about, were probably Jesse Owens, Babe Ruth
and maybe Red Grange. Anything else was just ancient history.

There is a lot more to UCLA's tradition than Kareem. He was not on all 11 of their championship teams. The last UCLA title was in 1995, long after Kareem and Wooden. They played in three straight final fours from 2006-08, and even Alford took them to the sweet sixteen two consecutive years.

Alright after reading these SLU forum posts I believe as a fan base we owe JT some monster posts about his abilities to lead us to the promise land !! I see why SLU is getting JG..... Insert sarcasm here

This is just all one big misunderstanding. Goodwin thought he was snapchatting with DUSTIN Ford. It will all clear up, you'll see... :D

Another perspective on UCLA. I'm 27 and played basketball and was recruited. I never heard of any of the UCLA stuff until I was already in college. Just from doing my own research on things. I remember telling some people my age about it and they didn't even believe me. Not that anyone cared. anyway. So to think that's what the draw is for these kids would see Unlikely.

All eyes on Jordan Goodwin

Goodwin has gone into stealth mode since the end of the AAU season. St. Louis Eagles head coach Corey Frazier told IlliniInquirer.com on Wednesday that Goodwin has not talked to any coaches over the last two weeks.

But the talk on the outside has run rampant. One thing has become clear: This is a battle between Illinois and SLU, despite there being seven teams on the list Goodwin released on July 26.

How about Justin Smith? Seems like a lot of his top schools have recently had higher rated wings/sfs commit?
Take this for what it's worth, but a source close to this situation told me today that UI is running at least 4th, maybe 5th in the race for JS.

One thing to note that in the past it was more difficult to "peruse" sports history. Nowadays I can go to Wikipedia and get the entire history of UCLA Basketball in a few seconds, plus links to the players and coaches history, links to news articles, etc.

I think many people here are a little out of touch. How can you tell me a talented high school basketball player, who is presumably a fan of the sport as well, would have no idea who John Wooden or Kareem is? Doesn't take much parsing to know the winningest program in NCAA basketball history was UCLA. I'm sure like many fans these kids are involved in discussions comparing the athletes and teams of today, to those of the past.

As an example I am a fan of cross country and track, and am constantly involved in discussions comparing High Schoolers, Collegiates, and Pros to figures as far back as Steve Prefontaine and Craig Virgin (both rose to fame in the early 1970s). Heck sometimes guys like Emil Zatopek or the Flying Finns sometimes enter discussions.

Then what's with all the "Ford has been in Goodwin's ear" talk?

I never really realized what a juggernaut Alabama football had been and could be growing up, even as a passionate college football fan. They were cannon fodder for Peyton Manning's Tennessee teams and Spurrier-era Florida.

Part of the recruiting process is introducing kids to the background of your program. Being part of a legacy of legendary players and teams is an appealing message to some kids.

People are raising kind of a double standard here, pointing out (accurately) that 17 year old boys tend to know very little about anything and their opinions on things tend to have no particular internal logic to them, while simultaneously declaring that the opinions of 17 year old boys hew exactly to THEIR carefully chosen self-serving framing.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but... you are weird.

We are all weird, we are discussing the possible future career choices of 17-year-olds with strangers on the internet. So in general, we should not extrapolate our thoughts to others.

As a general rule, 99% of people, including high schoolers that play basketball, are not interested in this stuff. So the fact that Wooden was the winningest college coach of all time back in 1975 doesn't really register with most of them. Yes, there will be a few, but they are the exception not the rule.

I found out the same about Alabama as well lol.- side note, I've worked with Lemanski Hall, if anyone knows who that is. Good guy. - Also found it interesting that, I believe, Princeton is the original king of football with 27 national titles.

No offense, but I suspect you may be a "little out of touch" with what a typical teenager is like. They really aren't "like many fans", especially those of us inhabiting message boards.

But they care about everything that happened 40 years before they were born. Cmon now!
