Illini fans might want to be careful with using mid-major term. Based on last 10 years I would say Illini results have been very mid-majorish.

Results have been piss poor, but we still play in a P5 conference, on ESPN at least twice a year, and get top 100 players every year.

Relax, yes, Goodwin is a phenomenal player. If he does commit to SLU he's gonna be an excellent player there. Mid-Majors get a high level recruit every once in a while. Rarely does it ever make sense but it happens; see Mitchell Robinson at Western Kentucky.

However, one player doesn't all of a sudden make a team a final four contender let alone even a tournament team. Ben Simmons says hello.

I can't imagine what Goodwin has been sold to change his mind but I'll take our class of 3 (soon to be more) over SLU. My guess would be, midway through 2017 when our program has truly turned the corner (probably sooner if everyone stays healthy this year) he might be seriously rethinking his SLU decision.

However, I do wish him the best of luck, seems like a great kid with an excellent work ethic!

I want players who want to be here. Period. If that's Goodwin...great, if it's not...next.

I see this as a reflection of conference and direction as much as anything else. Yes the results haven't been up to standard at Illinois, but the future potential is far greater in the Big Ten. As someone who lives in Saint Louis, I couldn't even tell you where SLU is on TV or when, etc.

With the Big Ten Network, CBS, and ESPN you hardly ever miss exposure at Illinois. If the kid wants to be the man, and play a Dusqesne/Rhode Island/St. Bonaventure, etc. two-three times a year, then more power to him. It's seems to be a decision to either go out on his own and run the show, or attempt to be a cog in a bigger goal (and class) at Illinois.

The truth is, Goodwin has wanted to commit a few times! Most recent was last fall, but each time he got talked out of it by a certain advisor

Yes, let's remember this! We should make Jeremiah feel really appreciated, without saying anything negative about his friend.
Well said - let's focus on the great class coming together. I'm more excited about Illinois basketball right now than I have been in years. That is awesome since this is my favorite sport and team and it isn't close.

Big fish, smaller pond. Worked out for Damian Lillard.

Is that certain advisor's last name Tate?

I really don't like talking about JGood when all of these rumors could be false or smoke and mirrors, but money has been talked about by ILLOB and discussed here.

IF (and I can't emphasize that IF enough) improper benefits are going his way and he is receiving thousands of dollars, that sounds like a pretty "selfish decision" to me. We all assumed him saying that had to do with him picking the right fit and that it was admirable for him to say it. What if it wasn't and he simply had a Freudian slip about a how he would be making his decision?

Just a thought. Anyway, I'm not going to worry either way but I'll stay hopeful until Jerry Meyer gives us the kiss of death with his CB pick and then it will be on to the next guy.

I just cannot imagine leveraging a kid and steering him in a certain direction to benefit myself. I know that these are highly desirable jobs that probably pay low to mid six figures we are talking about, but it still makes my skin crawl. Not saying it happened in this case, but it seems to happen quite a bit. I think it's disgusting.

Calm down

Not a fan of talking down on teams and/or players personally, especially without concrete evidence. Calling SLU and Ford "dirty" and discrediting JGood's character based on speculation is not a good look for the Illini fans. We have to remember that Groce's current class consists of two guys he HAD to get in Williams (family tree) and Tilmon (time and effort in recruiting) as well as an underrated player who LOVES the O&B in Pickett. Anything more at this point is above and beyond my expectations as Groce has delivered on my baseline expectations.

As an Illini fan from Goodwin's area, I have hoped he would wear the O&B given his passion for the game and will to win seem infectious. With that being said, every recruit has their own personal needs in life and different situations. I would hate to assume he picked SLU for $$$ reasons when it could simply be because he wants to be close to his family while playing solid competition or if he thinks his future is at PG and Ford gives him the best guidance at that position.

Disclaimer: I am not an insider into JGood's camp and don't know his story, just trying to be levelheaded here.

4 star, top 100 pg visiting Georgia this weekend. Close it out Fox.
Corey Evans ‏@coreyevans_10 Darius Perry begins his visit to Georgia tonight + Stanford, ASU, Michigan host top targets http://buff.ly/2aP03ht

While Perry did speak on a possible visit to Georgetown and Texas A&M in the coming weeks, there has also been whispers about a commitment that could ensue in the coming days following his visit to Athens. Georgia and Louisville have been the perceived leaders for the Wheeler High star over the past few months and once Sunday comes and Perry returns home, a commitment could take place. Georgia may have the best shot in landing the guard’s signature but it is also difficult to hedge our bets against Rick Pitino and his Cards bunch but the idea of playing the point straight out of the gates may be difficult to say no to when it comes to staying at home and suiting up at UGA.
