Both equally plausible scenarios.
He could do both, make the greatest defensive play in the history of baseball, and play all nine defensive positions one inning each. And then strike out again. All in the same game. That's the magic of Javy.

Wainwright done after 2 innings; huge after the extra inning affair last night.
Cubs lead 7-0.
Same for today. That can't happen in the playoffs. We have been playing/pitching awesome only to give up 5 runs in the 8th tonight and 6 runs in the 8th last night.
Bullpens are such a fickle thing. Three days ago it was unstoppable. Edwards Jr. will learn from his experience and Rondon certainly had some rust to shake off. Woof.
Going along with that, offensively stranding the bases loaded with nobody out the previous inning was unfortunate.
Being the glass half full person I am, at least the Cardinals didn't make up any ground in the division. The 12 game lead certainly helps ease the frustration a bit.
I hope all the people complaining about Strop earlier in the season, are sorry now.
I think once everyone is comfortable in their new roles, things will settle down.
Joe Smith has been hot garbage since his trade to the Cubs.
The complaints about Strop still don't make sense to me. 2.89 ERA (2.87 FIP), 0.893 WHIP, and 11.5 K/9. What's not to like? People probably don't like him because he wears his hat crooked.
Joe Smith has indeed been hot garbage. Wouldn't surprise me to see Cahill stay on the active roster with Smith designated for assignment after Cahill's spot start tomorrow.
Agree on Strop. By pretty much any statistical measure you want to use, he's been one of the best middle relievers in baseball for the last 5 or 6 years.
Completely would not surprise me to see Smith DFA'd after the Milwaukee double header, particularly if Cahill looks sharp. I suppose it depends on whether Lackey has to go on the DL, too.
He's a rental until Strop is healthy. He isn't going to have the time or the position on the team for his ego/personality to negatively impact them in my view.Papelbon decision coming within 24 hours. Cubs rumored to be a suitor.
Given his personality/ego (despite Lester's endorsement) and declining velocity, I'd prefer they pass.

He was extremely unhappy that he wasn't the closer after the team made a trade. With Chapman in Chicago only a completely obtuse individual wouldn't understand that they weren't going to be the Cubs closer. I think they could probably tell him to leave his politics at the door, too. Much different situation than the Nationals. I could see it happening, but I'm certainly not going to vouch for him beyond a the possibility of a very temporary situation. To an extent I agree, but for a team with the second best record in baseball to release him says a lot. I don't think he adds anything that Grimm, Edwards, Montgomery, or Cahill provide.
