Even though Frazier is a fantastic high school player, guessing Scruggs is not intimidated at all by him for playing time. Hard to say if Frazier would have a problem playing backup on a stacked B1G team.

Scruggs is a potential McDAA and Frazier is a borderline top 100 recruit. Big difference.

Yeah, Wilkes has stated he doesn't want to stay at a school 4 years. But wants to be somewhere he could see himself doing that if it came to it. He's a possible 1 and done talent.

Ah, but as soon as Scruggs commits to Illinois, he'd drop to about 50, and because Frazier likes Illinois his actual ranking should be a lot higher, so he'd end up around 50, too! Even Steven!

Again, in all likelihood it's irrelevant. We'll be lucky to get one of them. Both is about as likely as Brunson/Evans. Pure mental masturbation (which admittedly is what these forums are for).

+1. I'd be excited just to land Frazier

Henricksen: A summer recap

Summer’s best player: Morgan Park’s Ayo Dosunmu

There was no player from the Chicago area who played at a higher level and grabbed more national attention this summer than the 6-3 junior guard. Dosunmu’s play was dynamic at times, with an innate ability to create and score with the basketball in his hands.

How high has he climbed? Dosunmu, the City/Suburban Hoops Report’s top-ranked junior in Illinois, is now among the top 20 prospects in the Class of 2018, according to both scout.com and rivals.com.

Biggest splash from an underclassman: Uplift’s Markese Jacobs

While 6-10 Francis Okoro of Normal West may be the state’s top prospect in the Class of 2019, Uplift’s Markese Jacobs has pushed his way into the conversation. That’s the type of impact the power-packed, athletic scoring lead guard made this summer.

Jacobs picked up offers from Loyola, UIC, Southern Illinois, DePaul, Illinois and Kansas this summer.

Sure.
Frazier is probably a solid D1 point from year 2 on, while Scruggs is great D1 point on day one and potentially NBA caliber thereafter.

Sure, but TMI. ;)

I'm not sure how much the academic thing holds weight with Wilkes really, because he's got a pretty darn chance to play in the NBA in a couple years. That said, if it truly IS important to him and he is interested in engineering, then we are far and away the best choice for that of his remaining five. :thumb:

As an engineering alumnus, I will freely admit that UCLA is right up there with us in terms of getting a great engineering education.

Cal Berkeley yea but I don't know about UCLA... They are good but UofI is better.

Fun Fact: Mike Peterson, who was Scruggs/Wilkes AAU coach, is a cousin of Walter Offut former OU player and Groce staff member @ UI.

To quote Carl Spackler of Caddyshack..."So we've got that going for us." :thumb:

Somehow JCL fits in the Scruggs recruitment and in a way other than the previous Southport connection I mentioned.
Wilkes goes to the same HS as IDKWTI did. :)

Also Engineering alum... No way. Even on the West coast UIUC degree is more powerful.

Hey, I love the O&B, don't get me wrong. Shoot, I am sitting here in my office on the campus of a different school browsing these boards still. I am just of the opinion based on my own field/experience that UCLA is just a shade behind UI in engineering. It's not leaps and bounds like some would believe, and certainly not likely to be enough to sway a recruit our way over UCLA on its own if that sort of thing is important to said recruit. We will need the coach to do that.

That's my thinking as well. The question then would be if Frazier would stick around if Scruggs came on board. I really don't see this situation playing out though.

If I'm Frazier and ready to commit this weekend, my final question. If I commit right now are you done recruiting pg's for 2017? I'll commit to you if you commit to me. If JG answer is no, then he is gone. If he answers yes, then good chance the Scruggs/wilkes dream is gone.

Always take the bird in hand. If Frazier wants in, you've got another excellent piece to the '17 class. Then you focus on another PF/C for the fifth ride. You give out a 6th scholarship if a big-time recruit at whatever position wants in (Wilkes, Smith, etc).

I mean the obvious answer is yes and then you still take Scruggs if he wants to come...pretty simple.
