This is so random. Has he even visited Illinois? Has he even really been recruited by us? fascinating stuff.

Wilkes and Scruggs have both visited unofficially.

The longer Scruggs goes without committing, the better our chance of landing both Scruggs and Wilkes. If he can just hold off until we get him on campus, our probability goes way up.

I don't know, I think Scruggs has about 5 days to commit to us or we aren't even going to bother with him.

Completely agree. I like athletic 6'8" or 6'9" leapers over flat footed 6'11" or 7 footers any day.

Have you seen the videos of Kiir? Far from a flat footed 7 footer. Much more closely resembles the 6'9" leaper you speak of. Kipper and DJW are nowhere close to the height, which is why Kiir is such an important recruit. How many times have we experimented with 3 wings on the floor? Doesn't work.

Honestly to drive or fly to a University and see #1 Scruggs and #31 Wilkes take the floor together would be best thing ever as their Coach!

It worked for Villanova just a little bit.

I show that Scruggs visited 6/24/15. Wilkes was just prior to that. One of the two had praised our Engineering program. Can't remember who.

Starting Five: All A's so far for Arizona State, Auburn
Eric Bossi | National Analyst

On Sunday, 2017's No. 17 player, Kris Wilkes, announced that he is down to a five programs.

The 6-foot-7 swingman from Indianapolis (Ind.) North Central released a message on Twitter that he is considering Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, UCLA and Xavier.

Wilkes' father, Greg Wilkes, confirmed to Rivals.com that so far the only official visit that has been set is UCLA for the weekend of Sept. 23. However, Wilkes is expected to set up official visits to all five programs.

Though Wilkes has not publicly named a leader, the Hoosiers have been in the longest, offering him early in his high school career. Xavier wasn't far behind them. UCLA is more of a newcomer, but the fact that the Bruins have secured an official visit bodes well for them. Those three are likely running out front as Wilkes enters the crucial visit portion of his recruitment.

The article also talks about Jacob Epperson going to La Lumiere!

Just looking at timeline, I don't think our chances are good with Scruggs. With Frazier on campus this weekend, there's a chance we get him on the team right away. If he goes to Georgia and wants to have a comparison, Scruggs still has another whole week after his UCONN visit before he gets on campus. I don't see Frazier being uncommitted in September, and I see him in O&B.

I remember last fall or early winter a poster said Groce has developed a great connection with Scruggs and Wilkes, and that Illinois had a great chance of landing a monster class. So for those that have been following for that long, it shouldn't be a shock that we are getting a visit from either player.

Does anyone else remember that conversation? I know 100% that it was talked about on here, but I can't remember the exact words or who the poster was that said it.

I remember that being discussed as well. I can't remember who said it either. I seem to remember it being said that Wilkes was very interested in one of our academic programs as well

Seriously? That's what most college teams do these days, including the one that just won a NC. Heck, sometimes Nova just goes with 3 Gs, one wing, and one Big.

That said, I'm all for adding another PF/C. Kiir would be perfect. Tillman is great, but no player his size is going to play close to 40 mpg.

Are you assuming that Scruggs is afraid to beat out Frazier? Im pretty sure that if Scruggs wanted to come to Illinois, he would whether Frazier had committed or not

That's my thinking as well. The question then would be if Frazier would stick around if Scruggs came on board. I really don't see this situation playing out though.

We'll be lucky to get one of them. I have no idea who is or would be scared of whom, but it likely doesn't matter.

Wilkes was the one interested in the engineering program, this article from last summer there's at least one statement about that and his overall commitment to the academic side of things. From an engineering standpoint, if he's still committed to that, we definitely have a leg up on some of the other programs on his list there. I know we had Jack Ingram in engineering while playing basketball (I actually remember interviewing with him while I was looking for full time positions!) so he'd be someone I'm sure we'd get him in touch with.

I'm not sure how much the academic thing holds weight with Wilkes really, because he's got a pretty darn chance to play in the NBA in a couple years. That said, if it truly IS important to him and he is interested in engineering, then we are far and away the best choice for that of his remaining five. :thumb:

Even though Frazier is a fantastic high school player, guessing Scruggs is not intimidated at all by him for playing time. Hard to say if Frazier would have a problem playing backup on a stacked B1G team.
