Do you want Scruggs and Wilkes to OV together or not.... difficult question. On one hand you want to give each the maximum attention but on the other you can create a positive feedback system pitching them playing together and I am sure Tilmon could make it over for the weekend to talk Big 3 like the NBA system.

Broach the idea with them. If it's positively received, by all means, yes. Tilmon, guest star. Boom!

I think the most likely option is Frazier and rolling 2 to 2018, where we are in on some very talented guys.

I would love to add another big though...going to be very lean there if we don't.

As crazy as it may be, I think there's a greater chance that we'll sign 7 than 4. My best guess is that we'll take 5 for certain and probably even 6, but I hadn't counted on Wilkes. If he wants to be an Illini, though, you take him no matter what our scholarship situation is.

brings up an interesting scenario...which would you rather have?

1) Frazier, Wilkes, and Kiir or

2) Frazier, Wilkes, and Scruggs

Obviously I know this is unlikely to happen, but for discussions sake

IMO, you take option B. Our program has always been at our best when we're small but athletic and play fast. JT, MF and LB should be enough to cover the traditional big man roles but by then I'd also expect that KN and DJW should be more than capable as small ball 4's with MF or JT on the floor. I realize it's not ideal to only have only 2 dudes over 6'9" but I just think we'd be so talented on the wings, no one could slow us down or keep up.

There's an 8 page and growing thread on Goodwin since he committed.
True, but much of that is a lot of people chiming in with their thoughts at a time when there is no other Illini ball news. We need some news or we obsess over stupid things... I don't see anyone concerned about it, except when talk of Tisdale emerged. It'll keep getting talk until the Frazier visit, which is just a week away luckily.

A little surprised two high level UA recruits are looking at so many Nike and Adidas schools. Positive sign things are pretty clean.

Tilmon, Scruggs, & Wilkes greater than Oden, Conley, & Cook???

That is a really good question. I believe Oden, Conley, & Cook is the better group talent wise BUT in terms of what it would do for the program.. I think that they would be equal in that aspect

You are right. Oden was a consensus #1 and Cook/Conley were top 25, plus David Lighty was in that group.

At the end of July when Scruggs announced his visits, Mike Peterson his AAU coach for UA Indy Hoosiers tweeted, " '17 PG Paul Scruggs to visit IU and Xavier next week. Followed by MSU, Illinois and UCONN. This is the only source for Decision/Info."

This is so random. Has he even visited Illinois? Has he even really been recruited by us? fascinating stuff.

Scruggs has, not sure about Wilkes. Scruggs was very positive about his visit.

Completely agree. I like athletic 6'8" or 6'9" leapers over flat footed 6'11" or 7 footers any day.

The longer Scruggs goes without committing, the better our chance of landing both Scruggs and Wilkes. If he can just hold off until we get him on campus, our probability goes way up.

When I saw the mix tape above on justin Smith the first name that popped in my head for a comp was Sam Thompson from a leaping/athletic standpoint, but it appears he's got a better jumper to go with it. I want to say they were similarly ranked, no?

Sometimes I wonder if some of you just sit here all day coming up with players with whom to compare our recruits. It's kind of amusing. Carry on.

I remember last fall or early winter a poster said Groce has developed a great connection with Scruggs and Wilkes, and that Illinois had a great chance of landing a monster class. So for those that have been following for that long, it shouldn't be a shock that we are getting a visit from either player.

Does anyone else remember that conversation? I know 100% that it was talked about on here, but I can't remember the exact words or who the poster was that said it.
