Would Illinois be in play for him? It seems like DeAndre has many more offers and can likely play at a more prominent school than Illinois.

*Is possible his Rivals page is just showing the offers he received out of high school instead of current offers.

I think it's the latter, but he will surely have suitors.

Another clear option was DJ Gillins from Wisconsin who transferred because Gary Andersen recruited him at QB and Paul Chryst wanted to move him to WR.

Grades to get into Wisconsin, familiar with the Big Ten, obvious position fit, chance for revenge on the coach who doubted him, so of course he just tore his ACL and meniscus. Illinois ALWAYS gonna Illinois.

Why would anyone consider someone who punched a woman? I don't care how contrite, repentant, etc. Everyone is sorry if they think it will improve their lot in life. The video made me sick to my stomach.

It'd be cool enough for DeAndre Johnson to come here just because he's the star of Last Chance U season 2 and it'd be cool for Netflix to document a Lovie recruitment.

I mean seriously, you would never consider such a person?
Do you mean for anything (garbage collector, etc) or just for football?

On De Andre .
First I could give a flip about what his teammates say I would expect them to back him.
Second come on racial slur, a, freedom of speech. She threw the fist punch, drunken idiot. Come on she could not land on me if you gave her a dozen shots, I am 68.
Third he did not have to swing period.
All that said would I take him has be based solely on what I believe based how he would act in the future. So since I have sat across a table from him I don't know. He would have sit across that table. Because everything that was said and done afterwards went to script. So if I believe him yes if not then see ya Felicia.

Lovie has given plenty of NFL guys second chances. I would say his base philosophy would probably agree with brining him in. However, because the university has a certain reputation and safe environment to uphold, he might face an uphill battle. This kid seems to be trying to do the right thing. That should get him that chance somewhere. But it also comes with an extremely short leash.

This is why I don't understand football talent.

1) this dude has jets.
2) this dude plants his foot and appears to explode out of breaks
3) did damage against de Soto and manor, good competition with elite level athletes.

3 star Kansas commit with weak offer list according to 247. Why?

I believe this is the plan for all our recruits I think the staff is more looking for 6-8 guys they think can play WR/DB 10-15 OL/DL 8-10 RB/LB/TE not to say we aren't looking for the best true LB we can get but I just think Lovie and all the staff are more into wanting to get the best ath they can get and then fit them into where they will help the most

Yeah I tweeted Jeremy Werner a few weeks when his name first popped up, and he indicated Kendall Smith is likely a DB.

Illinois has offered Nik Bonitto from St. Thomas Aquinas. Big time defensive end. 247 has him as the 76th best player in 2018 and 3rd highest defensive end.

Major offer list on this kid.

And Tony Adams could go either way.

We're graduating 3 seniors, Zarrian Holcombe will probably bulk up to TE, and who knows about Dudek. WR is an area of need for sure. Ricky Smalling and Carmoni Green is an awesome start. Still room for one more.

Roberson is almost certainly going to start getting some big offers. We need to beat them to the punch, but of course Kansas already has.

Any updates on the recruiting front? Any big names we think we can get? We need talent quickly. Not to write off our current squad, but many of them don't have what it takes to make it at this level. Surprised I haven't seen more news of big recruits given we now have Lovie.

There has been a lot of announcements (Twitter) recently of players receiving offers from Illinois. Looks like the staff is putting in a lot of work this week.
