To go with the Wilkes vs. Lavine/Russell comparison. My point is I don't see Wilkes making the kind of impact Russell did his freshman year.
Is it possible that Wilkes could be one and done? Yes. Likely no. There will be examples of guys ranked near where he is and below who are one and done, but there are far more players and those rankings that stay multiple years in college. So possible yes but not likely.
He doesn't need to put up those kind of stats to be drafted though. The point was that guys can and do get drafted even their body isn't NBA ready at the time.
No doubt, I'm just saying the comparisons between Wilkes, Lavine & Russell is a bit of a stretch. Wilkes may possibly go after a year but I don't think it's as obvious a case as those guys.
Somehow, this circled back and became somewhat relevant. Here's a piece from when LaVine declared. Needless to say - Alford isn't exactly revered for his development abilities. Hopefully Wilkes takes that into account.

Could someone who is well versed in Wilkes' recruitment, make the case for Xavier, please? Trying to gauge how serious a contender they are.
Oh Alford. Lol. Sad as it is, I'm still hoping Wilkes goes to UCLA if he isn't feeling the Illini. I'd rather not face him in conference.

No way his extended family lets him go to UCLA, they love to watch him play too much. C/U is only about 100 miles from Indy. Jokingly, C/U is sort of like a suburb of Indy.

I don't know if my workday productivity can handle a Wilkes commitment today. You might already be able to tell that I am distracted. That said, I'd still take it, though I have absolutely no idea what is a realistic timeline for him to commit anyway. For the time being, I will just sit here and enjoy the show while various posters argue with IU fans over where Wilkes would best fit.
