Potentially big loss for MSU.

With Ben Carter and Gavin Schilling both out for MSU, I'm really starting to regret picking them to finish first in the B1G. That's going to be rough for them.

Kenny Goins is also coming back from an off-season knee surgery. Sparty caught the injury bug & it's looking like their front court is going to be thin.

Have we started predicting where we think UI will finish this year? I picked up a college basketball magazine from the store from SN and they have us finishing 6th in the league. Sounds reasonable. They have MSU, scUM, IU, Purdue, and Wisconsin finishing ahead of us. Sounds about right.

Whoever wrote that is drinking Kool-aid, but I like it.

To the impartial, outside observer, we are a B10 dark horse after our past few years. Either we're going to turn heads or we're going to finish squarely in the bottom half again and Groce will be in real hot water.

I've said this all along, Michigan State is not the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten, it's Wisconsin.

Some interesting insights in that article:

-Kipper not as explosive as you'd like
-Leron looks like the most explosive athlete on the team (I'd have thought DJW or maybe Kipper - either way, we're light on B1G athletes)
-Tracy looks quick and aggressive and shows an improved shot
-Thorne and Te'Jon both look fully healthy

Sounds generally promising. Hopefully Leron beasts out this year, we find at least one solid wing off the bench, and everyone stays healthy.

That Kipper thing surprises me. There's not a lot of unexplosive guys out there who can jump off two feet and go between the legs to dunk.

Maybe thats just an indication of how athletic the rest of our team has become.

I think the Jimmy Butler thing got everyone's hopes up a bit too high. He's a good athlete who is built but he was never a high flyer. His vert is a solid 36 inches, but it was only 31 inches when he got here. He's no Bertrand but that's okay.

I think this is the year we find out if Coach Groce can coach. I'm still not convinced.

Bertrand at 50 #'s lighter only had a 3" vert advantage on Nichols.:)

This can be serious. Effects can last for weeks. Anyone know the prognosis?

I suffered a concussion in early July and am just now getting back to normal. Been going to physical therapy twice a week. But, I'm a lot older and not in peak physical condition like a college basketball player.

A few weeks is certainly possible, though.

I still believe Malcolm, JCL and Leron need to be and will be our best players if we are going to be a good team

I think Thorne is above Black but I would tend to agree Black has the higher ceiling of the two. That being said Tracy is the most important. The team needs passable PG play for the first time in a couple years in order to be successful.

Not sure about best players, but as a team, if we are significantly better would depend much more on the contributions/impact of players in the post and PG than at 2-4.

yeah, I am pretty comfortable in what I think we will get from Malcolm, JCL and probably Leron. IF we get Thorne and Abrams at full go, full year then I am not worried about making the tournament.

6th seems reasonable. Maryland has literally lost everybody except Melo, Iowa lost everybody except Jok, tOSU has a solid 1-6 rotation but after that who do they have. They will have a depth problem. Those three teams will not finish ahead of UI this year.
