Winthrop 84, Illinois 80 OT POSTGAME

Future Walk-On

Unreal amount of 50/50 balls lost

We suck...can we fast forward 4 years and hope no one in the 2017 class leaves, gets kicked off team, and all live up to hype.

We aren't going to win many when Hill has an off night like tonight. He was 4/16 and 0/10 for 2 pointers. That and FT% were why we lost.

Can't choke away a 10 point lead. If this is the team we have for this year, and they can't improve, Groce should be fired. And I hate to say it with this recruiting class and because I like him.

Not a good omen, Groce losing in November at home for the first time, Winthrop beating a BIG for the first time.

Next few games are rugged. I hope this is a bracing slap in the face.

Don't tell me that his defense is a reason for keeping Tate on the floor.

Love him to death, but Malcolm was the reason for the loss. He was held scoreless for the last 25 minutes.

Totally agree. People are on the bigs, but Hill leads the team by going 0-9 from two-point land and commits 7 TOs. That's not what you need from your best player, especially when the other team's top guy is going for 40.

the bigs, malcolm whatever. I wonder where all the JT lovers are now. Easy to defend D2 caliber players but getting torched for 38 points on your home court is embarrassing. Also FTs, FTs, FTs.

I wanted to at least get to December before the "Fire Groce" chorus returned. Shall we talk about missed free throws and a total no-show by the bigs at all?

Dude, just stop. This excuse may have worked the first 30 bad losses, but it's lost its steam at this point. He does not deserve to be a coach here.

No...Fire Groce is easier. They have been waiting five games for this. Let them have their moment.

Actually this is going to be the 4th year in a row Illinois has missed the tournament. So it's not just five games. How can you continue to defend this?

Was wondering the same thing down the stretch...where the heck is our allegedly all BIG player?

Is it really possible to single one person out? It was a full collapse. Especially on the defensive end. Really really incredible stuff.

Not good for the season, not good for Groce. :tsk:

The team looked so tentative (except maybe Abrams) in the final few minutes and overtime.

Let me get this straight - we consistently got beat off the dribble by THE GUY WHO COULDN'T WALK

ok

Did anyone notice the ref with the brown hair trying to explain to the older ref right before the tip for overtime all of his calls at the end. He was trying to demonstrate the "hook" he was calling.

He thought in a 10 point game he was going to get his moment to take charge, thinking no way that it would influence the outcome, it did, and to me it appeared as the other ref was talking to him about it prior to the start of OT.

I feel terrible for our Seniors. It looks like Malcolm and Co. will never get to taste a tourney. I just don't think we have it in us right now. :(
