Question for any doctors on here: I came across this article/video a few months ago. A doctor in Boston trying a new way to mend ACLs. I'm interested in your professional opinions on this potential new treatment. In an ideal world, this doctor is saying people are fully recovered from an acl tear in weeks with this method. Very interesting to my non-medically professional mind.

I don't know if this is allowed by the NCAA at this point in time , but I think it would be great if Groce grabbed Fletch and TAbrams for a quick road trip to see Da'Monte ASAP to tell him we have his back now and when he gets on campus.

I'm sure the family will be referred to a top surgeon. Dennis Smith tore his ACL and meniscus in the Addidas National Tournament (Aug 2015) and was cleared to play April 2016. His surgeon was at a Duke Medical Center.

Can't say all injuries, recoveries, and results are the same. But seems possible that he can return for next season. Seems like there will be a glut at the PG/SG position next year. But if he is fully recovered, you might see him next October in uniform. Wish him the best.

two words: modern medicine or Dennis Smith

Speaking of Dennis Smith, could DaMonte enroll early? Probably doubtful, only a few days left of HS before break. No time to get his ducks in a row. Bummer, because he could really benefit by being on campus.

Probably not a wise move to start his 5 year clock sooner than necessary given his injury.

Someone get him a list of the shooting drills TA has been doing the past 2 years.

Talked to my buddy who is an assistant baseball coach with MU last night. Asked him if he had seen Smith play basketball. He told me Smith isn't going to MU. Has some type of injury the hinders throwing. Sounded like a big deal with baseball but wouldn't bother him in basketball.

Thanks, that is interesting for sure.

Interesting, thanks.

We don't need another guard in the '17 class. That said, Smith warrants very close monitoring. I think an offer is forthcoming. Love his size, physique, athleticism, ability to play PG, pretty much everything. Think about it: a Ray Rice clone with better handles and playmaking ability. Yes, please!

Could be something in his shoulder? He was a pitcher. I have a small tear in my shoulder that affects my throwing but nothing else. I can swing a bat, or play basketball pain free, but if I let loose with a throw my shoulder will be sore for a while. I can play catch, and toss lightly, only hurts if I throw hard.

I'm sure if I played competitive D1 basketball there'd be potential for further injury, but since I'm an out of shape 31 year old has been who shoots a basketball once a year and plays beer league softball I just deal with it.

The staff is obviously interested in another guard as they continue to pursue Verge. Smith could fill a similar role and be bigger and more athletic. The only thing I needed to hear was dropping 37 on Goodwin and getting the win. I like the Rice compare/contrast. Smith definitely has a developed body for a high school senior and is explosive. I would bet focusing on a single sport would do wonders for him.

I've always wondered pays for this? I'm sure once enrolled the athletic department's insurance would cover it and they can get the best surgeon in the midwest but how would this be handled at a public high school in Peoria for example?

I would think his parents would shop around, perhaps Chicago or StL for a good knee Dr. One that accepts their insurance plan for sure.

I wonder if Tracy Abram can counsel him... Nobody in recent times has overcome more physical adversity than him.

And overcome it well.

Man, what a rough break. Hope he gets good treatment and mends well. There's definitely a big mental aspect to rehab that has to be developed for injuries like this. You need to go through a number of different phases, all with different challenges. Can be hard to stay motivated. At least he'll have a lot of support --that helps.

St. John's 6'11" C --Yankuba Sima to transfer immediately. We do have a scholarship available for 2nd semester??

Would we want him? Big body, but hasn't done much with the Johnies.

I think it depends on how confident we are in getting another big and in 2018 recruits. Uses a 2018 scholarship that we likely will want. He would be same class as Black/Finke, so doesn't help in 2019. To me he doesn't fit well from those perspectives, I would much rather have a freshman big.

Anyone know what bigs we're after in 2018? 2019 has Okoro and Liddell, but I fell like I haven't heard a lot about bigs in the next couple classes.

At our school, kids are required to buy insurance from the school that covers expenses not paid by the parents policy. Parent policy pays first.

Per Evan Daniels on Twitter (@EvanDaniels), Harry Froling is transferring out of SMU. That was quick.

You beat me to it. I think he committed to Larry Brown, yes? We still need a big, but he would have to be out at least until next December should we get involved again.

Froling averaged 14.6 minutes, 4.3 points, 3.2 boards per game at SMU. Hopefully his prior relationship with Groce and the staff will serve as an advantage here.

Plus having an open scholarship helps. Throw in Semi as a grad transfer and close out '017 recruiting. Semi and Froling a package deal.:)

Very interesting. Expect us to go after him, but think he'll have several, if not numerous, better offers WRT projected playing time. That 15-18 mpg ceiling will hurt us. And he's not really a center. SMU and various other sources say he's 6' 11" now, so maybe he is a (non-traditional) 5. Still, definitely worth pursuing.
