I frankly haven't seen much to indicate Tilmon will put up big numbers as a freshman. Still feel he's ranked more on potential than actual production, and there will be some growing pains thrust into a starting role at the P5 level. Would love to be proven wrong.

After 8 games this year @ ESL he is averaging 14.1 ppg.

Tilmon will be a difference maker for this team. He runs the court like a deer. He is going to be a huge difference maker on the defensive side, he may not always block the shot but will alter a ton of them. He does a good job of keeping the ball high and finishes well in the paint. He may not have crazy high numbers right now but he will be a game changer for us next year. I have really liked watching him play.

I hope that a late first round/early second round projection following his Sophomore year would convince him to go back to school for another year. That FEELS like a risky proposition for a kid multiple years out of high school, but certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Stay in school unless you are a lottery pick, kid. Worst case scenario, you end up with a degree to fall back on.
Worst case scenario is he decides to stay, then blows out his knee and never makes a dime in the NBA. That's why kids leave early. It's a simple risk assessment.

2nd round doesn't even get you a guaranteed contract. It's a perfectly valid argument for lottery picks, but not a rationale for late first/early second round picks. If that were the case, I would suggest anyone capable of earning 6 figures overseas might as well leave early for fear of blowing out a knee.

Anyone talented enough to go late first/early second in NBA draft is very likely gonna be able to make more money by breaking through in NBA or playing abroad than they would make with the most common athlete majors (RST, communications, etc.) Unfortunately, many degrees in today's climate aren't a very sure source of income.

Nice game in Indy tonight. Enjoying it. Dye Epperson's hair black and you have your Tisdale look-alike contest winner!

Michael O'Brien ‏@michaelsobrien 2m2 minutes ago Dosunmu misses a 3 at the buzzer, Simeon beats Morgan Park 59-57

...and Coach Groce approaches Dosunmu and they embrace. Coach looks him in the eye tells him he played a great game and showed tremendous heart and he looks forward to him making that game winning 3 as an Illini in the Final Four. Dosunmu smiles, whispers in his ear, and thus the silent verbal is given :D (completely fabricated tale btw)

I could see Tilmon averaging something like 19 and 10...as a redshirt senior. I expect something like this:

FR: 8 pts, 5 reb, 1 ast, 1.3 blk, 0.5 stl
SO: 11.5 pts, 8 reb, 1.5 ast, 1.7 blk, 0.7 stl

Declares for draft; late first/early second round pick. If he were to stay for a third year, I don't think 15 and 9 with 2 blocks would be out of line, which would put him in the 1st team all-conference discussion. As soon as he proves to NBA decision makers that he has the requisite combination of athleticism, feel for the game, and general coachability, I assume he'll bounce. Probably two years. 6'11 kids with his frame, athleticism, and coordination are extremely rare even at the P5 level.

It doesn't seem like a lot of big men show up and really produce big numbers in their first or even second year -- with, I'm sure, some notable exceptions. Even the guys who go high in the draft seem to produce good but not great numbers, but they show enough potential that the NBA likes.

Maybe that's just my poor memory.
