Groce in to see Liddell tonight. He has 7 of first 9 points. Belleville west vs Belleville east. Pickett playing for East. Groce has been to a lot of East-West games last couple years.

Would appreciate your observations on Liddell. Know he had a good game, but that's it. Also, how tall is he?

For those who don't follow recruiting closely, Liddell Looks like a primary target for 2019. He played/plays for a very high profile AAU program. Think we have a good chance at landing him.

My concern with Froling and Epperson is that they will always be a threat to bolt back home and play professionally. Worth the gamble, but I would like a an athletic quick leaping 6-10 to also be recruited. They can play the stretch 4 but we need rebounders and shot blockers.

While I'm at it, anyone see Edwardsville's destruction of Belleville East? Really interested in hearing about how Smith fared.

Liddell is 6'8". I think he has another inch or two left to grow.

I definitely think we have a good chance considering we are the first and so far, only big school to offer him.

He has good ball-handling skills and a great shot considering his size and age. He will only get better and I hope Groce continues to pursuit him hard. His attitude is phenomenal as well. Already acts very mature on the floor.

East does not match up well with Edwardsville's size and strength. Edwardsville plays more of a half court offense and they were just on fire that night. It was difficult for East to get anything inside with Epenesa and the length of Edwardsville.

Smith played well again. Had 18. There are going to be some awesome games in that conference this year.

Really looking forward to Trent being on the floor for the Illini!!

There's no doubt that Tilmon is the best prospect among our recruits, but I think you could make a pretty good argument that Frazier is the best player of the group right now.

Epperson has played multiple seasons of high school basketball in America. Froling did not. Huge difference.

Yeah, the ceiling for Tilmon is way up there. Bigs are always slower to develop. Frazier really seems to be lighting it up this year. I know some have questioned the level of competition he plays against, but at the end of the day that is out of his hands. All he can do is play well against whoever is put in front of him and he has been doing that.

Yea we had a discussion on here a couple weeks ago about the competition Frazier is facing. Florida seems to have a screwy 9 class system, but his team is in the highest division. Also worth pointing out that he shot up the rankings during the AAU circuit against good competition.

I think most teams would like that. I'm sure we're looking for that but we're running out of good options.

Not to knock the guys we have or current recruits, but to repeat the same mistakes will result in the same results. Our current players are effective most of the time, but when we get to the top 25 teams and higher, you need that type of player on your roster. Tilmon will fill that void, it would be nice to team him up with a PF/C who is athletic to practice against and compliment in games.

So we need to temper expectations but he'd better be Dee Brown?

Not quite what I meant although I could have worded it better. I'm just saying that we've been so thirsty (rightfully so) for a point guard for so long we might be setting the bar too high for him.

IMO if everyone in this recruiting class reaches their ceiling then he will be the fourth best and that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Doesn't sound like scoring will be a problem with this class and Tilmon will be a huge boost to post defense. Can anyone give a read on their quickness (reason Dee was in a class by himself)? Still believe that is the key to a superior defense and it can't be coached. Was the key to Uconn's two national championships imo.

I've been thinking this for months now but we really need to temper expectations on Trent. He might be the best high school player of the recruiting class right now but if he has the best career of this class he better have a Dee Brown/Trey Burke type impact.

I think this post is way more confusingly written then it needs to be. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the details but I believe he's saying...

1. The consensus on Trent is that he is the best HS player of the class.
1a. This fact shouldn't be used to say his game will translate over to the college level
2. If people think he's gonna be the best college player of this class, then he better be someone on the level Dee Brown/Trey Burke.

I think the point being made here is, even though his HS numbers look great, if we are gonna label him the best player of the class, then he better be really really good since the other recruits we are getting are going to be really good college players--or at least thats the expectation.

If this is what the post was meant to say, then I agree ;). Tilmon needs to be a force down low and he should be. Soph him and Senior Leron... What a duo. If Trents gonna be named the best player of this class when its said and done hes got a lot of work to do.

Where I dont agree is thinking people in this thread agree Trent's gonna be the best recruit of the class. Maybe collegiately, he'll end up having the best career stats, but this is probably because he'll stay all four years. Tilmon is a gamechanger, which will only be exasperated by the fact Leron is going to draw so much attention next year. I bet Tilmon has a fantastic non-con run next year, whereas Trent will leave a lot to be desired--although it'll be just him and TJL at the 1 so it's possible he wins the starting job at some point.

I think almost everyone on here would take JT over TF.

Just curious.. what are people expecting Tilmon to contribute next year? I would guess 8 ppg and 5-6 rpg. I think that people are over-hyping him next year more than Frazier.

I think that is reasonable, but not much reason here, he may get more playing time & be a bit above that, but we shouldn't expect more.

For Reference:
Augie 21.8 minutes, 7 pts, 5.8 rpg,
Brian Cook 18.6 mpg, 9 ppg, 4.5 rpg
Leonard 8.2 min, 2.1 ppg, 1.2 rpg

8 and 6 would be a very productive freshman year. If he does something like 10 and 7, that would be almost more than we could hope for.

Those be be pretty good numbers, IMO. People have to remember that freshmen bigs struggle to stay on the court due to foul trouble and conditioning. So he's unlikely to play much more than 20 mpg or so.

Was curious and looked up ytd 3pt %. Frazier 32%, Pickett 30% Not as impressed with scoring potential as a lot of their scoring is inside in H.S. And will be a lot different in college. We need to be realistic on their early impact.
