Is Matta stepping down or being let go a rumor?
Huggins defense is STIFLING... we couldn't get the ball up the court which is embarrassing, more embarrassing, we couldn't even figure it out in the 2nd half...
Interesting point.I am good with what NC State has done - I have been posting that we needed to let go once we get to 9 losses in conference (HELLO!?).
However, if they know Archie is their guy - the timing is pretty crappy. Rumors are going to fly that Archie is going to NC State (they already are), and it is going to really piss of the Dayton contingent. That includes Archie Miller. Remember Bill Self having to deny going to Kansas for just a few days? Archie is going to have to do that for over a month! Is that going to turn him off?
Matta is a great coach, in my opinion. Ohio State would be crazy to let him walk.
Matta is pretty good, but he seems to have been better with a strong recruiting assistant. That's just interesting. We'll see what is next for both of them
Interesting point.
I only posted the same thought for us because Williams can be hired immediately.
Yeah, that is why I am all for Groce getting the axe yesterday. We have no frontrunner that is going to take a bunch of heat for the rest of the year, like Archie will with NC State. Promote Walker to interim HC and start the search process - no secrecy or hesitation about Groce's job.
I say this because I really want our players to play free the rest of the year without the constant barrage of questions and unceartanty about JGs job status. Let them try to play it out without JG, make some noise in the BTT - have fun in whatever postseason tourney they get into, and end the year with some hope that Whitman will bring in a solid leader.
Same with recruits and the questions about JGs job. Fire the guy now, let Whitman talk to them about the future of the program and keep them onboard mentally until the new guy shows up, then let them decide what they want to do.
There are no downsides IMO.

Again, I'm much more interested in results rather than excuses at this point. Cal had their two most talented players playing in that game one of which was the number 3 pick in the draft. He was w/o Bird and Wallace for that NCAA Tourney game. Those are two HUGE blows. This has been discussed. Look at Indiana this year w/o two of their best players. They blow, right? Imagine that in the NCAA Tourney. #smh
I've already bought a ticket to the Keatts train. If Monty Williams or a guy like Bennett are unreachable, give me Keatts. You want results? How about 262-17 over 10 years and 2 national HS championships? How about 65-27 (and counting) over 3 years following his predecessors 29-63 prior 3 years? 37-13 in conference, 2 time (and counting) conference champions?
If its results you want to get, Keatts is the bet!
KEATTS HYPE TRAIN
Below is the link to that game and interesting excerpt below...

Jordan Mathews led California with 23 points, but the loss ended a week the Bears would rather forget. The Golden Bears' played without popular assistant coach Yann Hufnagel, dismissed amid allegations of sexual harassment, and leading scorer Tyrone Wallace, who broke his hand Wednesday in practice. As if the Bears (23-11) needed more obstacles, guard Jabari Bird had back spasms during warmups and never played.
Coach Cuonzo Martin said it was about 2 minutes before tip that he found out Bird was unavailable.
Considering the absences, California needed its healthy stars to be at their best and they failed. Jaylen Brown was a miserable 1-of-6 shooting, committed seven turnovers and fouled out with 6:22 left and the Bears trailing by eight. Ivan Rabb had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, but was hounded on the interior all game. The Bears were just 3 of 19 on 3-pointers, all coming from Mathews.
It could be the final game for Brown and Rabb if they decide to jump to the NBA and may bring more scrutiny to Martin's status considering the school is already reviewing his response to Hufnagel's situation.
"It was one thing to have Tyrone out, but we expected that, because he was injured," Martin said. "But two minutes before a game start time, it's tough. But you still have enough to win the game, so there's no excuses."
Regarding the IU job if Crean gets fired at the end of the season... is IU expected to at least reach out to Brad Stevens to see if there's a chance he'd leave Boston? Or is that too far fetched for anyone at this point?
I couldn't disagree more.
NC State hasn't officially fired Gottfried yet.. NC State would be smart to wait until the season is over.
The search process has already started..... but doesn't really take off until other teams seasons are over with. Each candidate is currently coaching and will most likely be into the NCAA tournament (except for Money).
No downsides? Firing Groce before the season ends would be the worst thing Whitman could do. It's not even debatable.
If you fire Groce now... each player signed will request and be granted immediately a release from their letter of intents. We would have no head coach for a month while every other school in the country recruits them. Goodbye Tilmon, Frazier, Damonte. You would be looking at a 3-4 year rebuild. PROGRAM SUICIDE. There is a reason you don't see head coaches fired mid-season in college basketball. It does nothing but hurt the program even more.
Walker as the interm? Mike Thomas did something similar when firing Weber after the BTT... He gave Jerrance Howard the interm position for a few weeks. Although no games were played... the players rallied behind Jerrance and created a sticky situation with the new head coach. Players went to Mike Thomas before Groce was hired saying they want Jerrance to be the head coach. After this, there was no way Groce could keep Jerrance with players potentially undermining him because they favor the assistant.
Groce will be fired after the season is over.

Cross Archie off the list--not that he was ever on it.
His biggest issue seems to be his health.
Totally out of the box. What about Geno Auriamma? If he gets to 100 and a fifth title in a row, maybe he is looking for a new challenge.
Word starting to get around that Billy Donovan may be looking to get back to the college world.
That'd be a grand slam.
I just really find that hard to believe. Has there ever been a NBA coach who voluntarily left his NBA head coaching gig to come to coach college? There have been plenty who have been fired or "resign" when it was obvious they were going to get fired and come back, but I can't think of any who have left voluntarily.
Where did you see that?
