There is this crazy part of my Illinois brain that thinks that Illinois will have the game of the year vs Iowa.
Then the Logical part of the brain says JOK is healthy for Iowa and what are you thinking.
Got to help me with is.
Did we not already have that against Michigan? We shot over 60% and Mav went on to call another team 'white collar', I feel like we may have already had our game of the year, unfortunately.
I envision a game that isn't close at all, and we'll probably have one of those patented 7 minute scoring droughts while Iowa shoots > 75%.
At least Woodbury is gone. No one will be in danger of losing their eyesight.
5 more games left in the regular season....can't come soon enough. Only thing left to look forward to is guessing who the new coach will be.
Did Krush already go to Michigan, IIRC? Love it when they invade CHA.
I hate Hawkeye fans with a passion!!!
In my time as a fan, I can't recall a season being over so early for us....unless you count last season too.
Copy that
Growing up on the Illinois side of the Iowa-Ilinois border, I had to put up with my share of obnoxious Hawkeyes fans on both sides of the river. Now that I"m older and have lived elsewhere, I understand that part of it is just not having any professional sports teams to root for.
I will say that I respected Hayden Fry and Dr. Tom Davis as coaches.
Same circumstances for me exactly. The lack of proximity has certainly lessened my vitriol.
Slightly off topic, but what would you guys say the fan breakdown was for NCAA fans (basketball or football) on either side of the Quad Cities? The NYT map (which obviously has MANY issues and is just for fun) had the following breakdown (can only look at zip codes, as far as I can tell):
Downtown Davenport: 59% Iowa, 6% Iowa State, 5% Illinois
Downtown Moline: 37% Iowa, 15% Illinois, 4% Notre Dame
The Iowa side seems way too low for Illinois, from my experiences.
Don't know if things are still the same (I moved away 20 years ago), but the river was a real dividing point. I grew up about 45 minutes N of the QC along the river and it was about 99% for the in-state school, depending on the side of the Mississippi. You can't find Illini gear in Iowa and vice-versa. Probably not as severe a discrepancy now since we've fallen almost completely off the map.
The game on Saturday is supposedly sold out, with maybe standing room only seats left.. Hope to see some Illini fans there in the crowd.

Not scientific by any means, but I'm in sales for a sorts apparel company and one of my major accounts is Hy-Vee. We have both an Illinois and an Iowa license. In the Quad cities I can sell a lot of Iowa clothing. I sell little to no Illinois stuff. I used to hate it. Now I've realized I can root for Illinois on my own, and my bank account can root for Iowa.Don't know if things are still the same (I moved away 20 years ago), but the river was a real dividing point. So, if we finish 5-0 in conference and win the B10 Tournament, we'll go into the NCAAs at 23-12, right? What's that, a 9 seed?
I'm not sure when I have ever felt this way about a game before. my over-riding emotion is "Who Cares". It would be nice to beat Iowa because I dislike the hawks but what difference does it make?
I cannot wait for this season to end - I am ready for a new season to start.
