Marriage that would make a lot of sense to me: Steve Prohm and LSU.
Prohm has kinda sneakily just met, as opposed to exceeded, expectations so far at ISU after being handed a loaded cupboard by Hoiberg. But they graduate everybody next year and it's a full scale rebuild without much young talent in the pipeline in an absolutely brutal league where ISU will never match its competitors in resources. Combine that with Prohm's modest contract and he'd be crazy not to listen.
He's a southern guy and the talent on hand at LSU would give him a bit of a running start. And LSU isn't doing any better than a solid sitting P5 guy like Prohm.
Just a thought.

Certainly seems like a natural fit for Keatts. Within 100 miles of where he spent most of his life. Tough job though

I get it, coaches come to the Big Ten thinking they can play up tempo only to find out they have to be able to win those mid forties to high sixty point games. But for the love of Loyola Mary Mount no Bruce Weber 38 - 33 snooze-a-thon loses. I just would like to see an offense capable of putting up some points. I also love the hard nose pressing defense. And toughness, too.

The guy has made two hires here. Nothing screams "Whitman" because the sample size is too small.
Yeah, because after 1 incredibly opportunistic hire of a former NFL coach and 1 hire who was an assistant at a top program we all obviously know what a "Whitman hire" is.

I'm more of a Rivendell person.
And it's one, really. And that one is sui generis for a lot of reasons.
We don't know as much about Whitman as the narrative around him implies.
This is why I see things like "Illinois to play New Mexico State at the United Center" and a little chill goes up my spine. He's as smart as he sounds, right? He does actually get it, right?

Posters have a good evening, sleep well knowing Josh Whitman is on the job. I must go, my Mom has told me to turn out the basement light and go to bed.
Really like Frank Martin....the man can rebuild a program. But I can say with 100% certainty that he will not take the job.
I can't believe he was able to pull in Lovie Smith, so far he has done an excellent job

That job is toxic. They expect championships there for some reason. Their previous coach has had more NCAA success than Keatts and he still got fired.
So Monday will be the day?
I'd be very surprised if we end up with Keatts.

IMO Saturday or Monday unless they wait until they're knocked out of the NIT.

I haven't heard his name mentioned for any coaching job but my sources tell me John Scheyer is ready. With the success of the Duke coaching tree, it might be smart to get this guy before he becomes a hot commodity. He's an Illinois guy who could recruit nationally also. Has anyone heard his name mentioned for any job?

People forget two things:
1. The NIT is down to the 4 teams going to New York before the Sweet 16 starts. It goes fast.
2. The Final Four is the big coaching fair for the industry and usually the dominoes don't really start falling until then.
There isn't anybody on our board who isn't going to be occupied between today and at least like March 17-18. I bet Groce coaches whatever postseason we attain.

Exactly. No one has any insight into Whitman's methodology when it comes to hiring, except that he seems to work efficiently and he's willing to think outside the box. There's no reliable precedent that we can infer from.
