I'll repeat my top 3 from November:

1. Archie Miller
2. Kevin Keatts
3. Chris Mack

We need a dynamic recruiter, I like hearing Whitman prominently mentioning that.

Do you have a replacement for 3. Chris Mack?

This search is going to drive me crazy. All of our potential candidates, except potential NBA guys out of left field, are in the NCAAT. I can't imagine any real news coming out for days, even if JW has a grip on a replacement.

I am going to be very non-productive for at least a week.

My Archie Miller story:

I stayed at the Westin in Indy in 2015 with my side piece (dont tell anyone) to see Langhorne Slim at the Old National Centre. After the concert we needed a nightcap so we headed to Shula's in the hotel. Walked in and order the lady a glass of wine and me a bottle of beer. There were only 5 other folks in the joint, they were about to close.

With Stanford football losing to Washington St and about 8 minutes to go in the game a man encouraged the barkeep to give everyone another round so we could all see how it played out. The gentleman pouring drinks obliged and everyone nodded in approval. Several more drinks over the course of 6 minutes (game time) we learned that man was Archie Miller and they were in town to scrimmage, I think it was Purdue.

Stanford ended up winning the game but on that night Archie won our hearts. If somehow we can land him I will forgive him for saying one of his players was the alternate name for cat. I wont name that player either but I will say Archie turned that kid into a captain and a damn fine player.

What a night.

So much to love about Airplane. Otto Pilot, Barbara Billingsley,

Steve McCroskey: Johnny, what can you make out of this?
[Hands him the weather briefing]
Johnny: This? Why, I can make a hat or a brooch or a pterodactyl..

Ted Striker: It's Lieutenant Hurwitz. Severe shell-shock. Thinks he's Ethel Merman.
Lieutenant Hurwitz: [singing] You'll be swell, you'll be great. Gonna have the whole world on a plate. Startin' here, startin' now. Honey, everything's comin' up roses...
Ted Striker: War is hell. And being an Illini Fan waiting on a new Coaching Hire.

I guess we can check them off as their teams are eliminated. If Keatts team, etc. loses Thurs.. or Fri. & isn't hired the following week, that would "seem" to indicate that, that particular coach was not the top candidate.

It will be interesting.

(Not at Illinois but) With a UC Davis win tonight do you think Jim Molinari gets another chance? His time at Bradley sure looks better in hindsight.

And this may take awhile with continued wins....

Chris Collins probably won't be around NW forever. Probably wouldn't happen but could be interesting.

I'm just confused, now. Monty Williams has expressed no interest? How many others have already denied lack of interest? And Please, no Tom Crean, C. Martin, F. Martin, Martin Lawrence or any Keady-Tree coach. I was high on Spoonaur? from Eastern Illinois, because I saw what he did by winning a National Championship, at Wabash Valley Junior College. His team was fun to watch. Last year I wanted him, but not so much now.

Pretty sure a prominent champaign businessman lives in North Carolina. It was my first thought when the flight there was mentioned earlier in the thread. He has his own jet and makes the trek often.

I'm going to get out my jump to conclusions mat and interpret this to mean we aren't getting 1 or 2. Commence meltdown.

I know it is because I am a Bradley fan that this sounds so bad. But come on.

No Les doesn't get another chance (U C Davis)
No Molinari doesn't get another chance (Nebraska)

I assume it was a joke, but you screwed it up.

I think you jumped to the wrong conclusion. I think Mack is the one that we wouldn't get if we pursued. The other two are the ones in play.

If the flight is in fact related to the search, would Whitman really be going to talk to Keatts before his team is knocked out of the tournament. Just not sure how much respect is usually given to the school and coach in regard to letting him finish out the season, especially when Whitman said he will be considering options that will be coaching in the tournament.

Just give me someone who can keep this class intact and move on. 3 top candidates to choose from with many more to come. Regardless keep Walker and go after Smith hard.

Keatts could turn out great but he's not going to generate one once of interest to the casual fan if hired.

I hope Josh goes all in for Marshall. If he declines, go all in for Archie. I'm off the Cuonzo train.

Was thinking the same thing...here we go again with another up n coming small potato coach. Keats Who? Think big...you get big..

They had a special Saturday edition of the Tay and Jay show and Jeremy Werner said that Archie Miller has a list of schools he would leave for and Illinois isn't one of them. He has said this before, but who knows what happens if the $$$$$ are right.

Is there a forum for disturbing confessions and interesting but useless celebrity meetings?

I am less of a fan of many of the names mentioned on this thread, but as I have mentioned in previous posts, I'd take a chance with someone like Jeff Capel before I'd take the mild flavor of the week approach. I think we need a dynamic recruiter, someone on who can not only deal with the prominent HS/AAU programs but embrace the recruiting challenge right away.
