That's true, but it also totally discounts the possibility that things have changed since the Woj tweet. At the time, Monty may have turned down an offer, Whitman gave him another pitch, and he went for it. Who knows. I guess we will find out in due time.

Except that hasn't put anything to bed. All it said was that at the time that Woj tweeted it, Monty was not taking the job. That doesn't mean the conversation didn't continue and that Monty couldn't have been won over.

I can't remember where I saw it, but Whitman said that he didn't offer the job to Monty or Cuonzo. He could be telling the truth because maybe at the time, he hadn't offered the job to Monty yet
