Hope to see Underwood/Antigua make some visits to some of the '18 guys soon

If we could somehow land Smith and a Post that can rebound and play decent defense, I'd be ecstatic. However, neither will likely happen.

I like this article. He seems like a pretty strong Louisville lean but if we can get in there, ofter decent playing time.

And then we add:

"We also believe you will excell better at Illinois and strive to become greater. If you follow family you will strive to be as good as them; At the U of I, we believe you can strive to be even better than them"

That article is from 2016, probably when he was a strong L'ville lean.

Tevo, you do raise a good point, but how many kids get 9 to 12 months to mull over job offers? Tilmon had an ample amount of time to weigh his options. He also had ample time after Groce was fired to ask for his release. He also had ample time after meeting with Underwood to ask for his release. Had he not retweeted his commitment to Illinois on Monday, and then decide on Wednesday to ask for his release, I'm guessing there wouldn't be as much cynicism or frustration.

I wholeheartedly agree he should go where he wants to go. But I don't think your analogy is apples to apples here. And while I would support my son if he wanted to make a change like that, I would also reprimand him on the way he went about making the decision. And had he asked for my opinion, I would have helped him with his announcement of said decision.

He also never wanted to sign the NLI, delaye doing it a couple days, and everyone on this board blew up about that.

I've moved on from Tillman. He initially hedged at the signing period, then double talks them that he's honoring his NLI, then puts out on Instagram a couple days later he wants out. Well, Mr. Tillman, you're out and don't come back. Just know this, wherever you go, I hope at least once, you have to play BU and his Fighting Illini. If and when you do, they are goin to run you out of the gym.

I want Tilmon to recommit just so all you guys who are tough talkin can get played. Jesus Christ guys he's 17/18 and making a decision for the rest of his life. The coach he committed to and had known for almost a third of his life was on the hot seat when he committed and on the hot seat when he signed. Everyone knew this was a possibility. Get over yourselves.

Yup, with Frazier breaking his ankles at the top of the key on a switch. Now that's a true Illini! Hats off to Frazier, DaMonte and Pickett for keepin it real! I hope Mr. Smith wants to join the party too!

So imagine your kid, fresh out of college (let alone high school) accepted a job offer, and then came to you a few days later and said, "Oh, Dad, I think I made a huge mistake. I took the job because I felt like everyone expected me to, and I felt like I had to make a decision, and maybe I was too hasty, but I think it was a mistake and I think I'd be happier with another job -- I just don't think it's for me!" Are you saying your response would be, "Sorry, kiddo, it's too late. You have to go work at that job you now realize you don't want for at least a year before entertaining any other possibilities. Yeah, maybe you'll be miserable and constantly second guessing yourself, and maybe your work there won't be very good because you're unhappy, and maybe that company will spend a ton of time and effort training you, only to have you leave in a year, but your word is your bond and that's it! Maybe this will teach you a lesson to never make a choice unless you are 100% certain that it is not only a good decision, but the BEST possible decision, even if another unexpected option pops up later."?

I get the disappointment and frustration, but it doesn't serve anyone well to have a kid go somewhere he doesn't want to be.

I don't see this as a good comparison. Yes if a job opens up that is better I would take it. Here Tilmon said on Monday he was "still" committed to UI then on Wednesday said no. That is not as getting a better job offer. He has been committed since July or so and had ample opportunity to get out of his LOI when BU came aboard. Something changed I wish I knew what it was. My guess Miznoz did something crooked or at the very least was in his ear through a 3rd party. Legal? sure. Ethical? No

There is a huge difference though. People are trying to make the analogy of their son making a college decision or a job decision, etc. But these are totally different dynamics. These 17-18 year old kids face tremendous pressure and constant badgering and intimidation from outside forces trying to influence their decision.

My son and your son will not face the constant pressure of hundreds of college coaches and recruiters, phone calls, meetings, shoe company agents, coaches, press, fans, message boards, etc. trying to make a decision. So before one can reprimand these kids, one has to realize that these kids are just pawns in a game controlled by adults and multi-billions dollar interests.

Did you know that if you say "banana" very slowly that it sounds like "gullible?"

Someone made a reference a long time ago that anyone looking for a job would leverage as much as possible to get the maximum amount of money. you can probably translate that into playing time or something related to basketball, but i think we all need to stop acting like this is not something that happens all the time at an individual level, just a lot more eyes on it in this scenario.

I don't think you can reprimand his choice, but you can reprimand how he handles that choice. I'm sure as a 17-18 year old kid in ESL he's seen a lot more of the real world than my son or your son has. He's grown up facing pressure, badgering and intimidation probably his entire life.

Like I said, if he has doubts, then he needs to figure it out. He had ample time to ask out. It's just odd he did it right after seemingly recommitting.

I want Tilmon to recommit just so all you guys who are tough talkin can get played. Jesus Christ guys he's 17/18 and making a decision for the rest of his life. Get over yourselves.

Let it go, he's gone, someone got their hooks into him. I wouldn't of had a problem if he wanted out after JG was fired. That's the cost of doing business and no player is bigger than U of I basketball. It's the back and forth. I wish him success and hope he finds what he's searching for. I don't care if he's 18 or 38, that's not how you conduct yourself.

He is not making a decision for the rest of his life. He is making a college choice to play a game. Throughout life he will have other choices. We make choices every day. Is this a big choice? Right now for him it is. But as he ages this will become a smaller and smaller choice. :tsk:

Any idea where Bragg ends up? Not that I think he'd be a possibility here but maybe he takes a step down and goes to play at Akron with JG. Showcase himself, be the man for a couple years, try to regain some stock?

Illinois was in Carlton Bragg's final 3 before he committed to Kansas, correct? I say we should go get him
