If we don't land Smith then BU will get Moore or Hardy to replace not having him.
If you have NBA aspirations you go with bluebloods if they offer.I've been a diehard Illini fan all my life (58) but if I had a son or grandson with elite talent there's no way I would try to steer him away from Cal or K.They get kids to the league. You don't risk your future to possibly be the home state hero.
ok. I think a whole lot more lies in the player than the coach. If yoou have NBA talent in you. most will see that success on their own. Cal gets kids to league ... meh. he gets kids that are NBA leve;l.. has them 1 single season. They probably would be there anyway

To be general here. I've never understood why kids >
1. Have no allegiance to their home school. (Illinois being the poster child for this)
2. If you want to be the man ,why are you considering places you wont be?
3.If you want to make a name for yourself. , why do you go to schools like ky,Duke,NC ? Where there is so much history and famous names? You're just a another player there. Hard to erase a name like Jordan or even Laetner
Would Underwood take both Smith and Moore?
Is the guy with his arms crossed, top right of the picture by TL, Gentry?
While I think Calipari is an elite coach, saying "he gets kids to the league" is giving him more credit than he deserves. He recruits the best players. The NBA Knows who can play before they leave high school. With AAU and all the other avenues of evaluation, there are few surprises.
Cal gets kids to the league? No , these kids would be in the league already if not for the 1 and done rule. The only thing he should be applauded for is basically getting a new team every year and getting them to act like a team. He's not a god.
Well, devils advocate to this........he often helps to solidify their lottery status and gets them in a higher position in the draft. By no means a fan of UK, but it is what it is.
I think he is really shady. But his college record is unbelievable. UMass had one 5 star and made the FF and won 38 games. Before Cal got there they had won 5 games....over the last two seasons.
The guy can coach he can recruit and he motivates guys to play at the high end of their spectrum. He is a very good coach.
What Cal do is show the NBA that those elite recruits can be team players. That helps their already elite status.
Water is wet and the sky is blue, too.He is an example of how playing with elite talent, at an elite school, with an elite coach, incredible national exposure, and making a deep run in the NCAA tournament can do wonders for your NBA stock.

Jamal Murray and Tyler Ulis. They did not have "elite" status. They were not projected as high draft picks as they ended up being.

FWIW, it looks like Jamal Murray was the 10th rated recruit by RSCI in 2015 and Tyler Ulis was the 19th rated recruit in 2014. They were drafted 7th and 34th respectively in 2016.
2. I think people on this board are somewhat misreading the playing time situation here vs MSU. He's going to get minutes at both places as a freshman. I don't think he's going to walk in here and be "the man" at either school.

He doesn't know what he's doing if he won't.
Ah, the ol' PT argument. A true Illini faithful standby.Mark will have a hard time getting 10 minutes per game at MSU. He will have an opportunity to play 25 plus mpg at Illinois. There is just no comparison.
Yeah, looked it up later. I guess I am suffering from revisionist history syndrome. LOL. Cal is not the god I thought.
