Which is correct. But it will be couched in oblique, conditional language, because those guys are skilled operators.

You have piqued my interest. Can you elaborate? Or is this too off topic for Illini recruiting thread? Also it would keep my mind occupied however briefly from thinking about what is going to happen Wednesday.

We're probably not getting him. And it's not the end of the world. The end of the world is not understanding why we're not getting him, and not orienting ourselves in a direction towards getting the future him's.

I had the same feeling when I watched him a couple months ago - a holy cow, we have to get this guy. Soph/junior Deron is hyperbolic, but he looks like an NBA player. Btw, I also had that feeling watching high school videos of Jamal Murray - a this kid is big, very athletic, can handle, shoot, drive and score - look out.

I hope it has nothing to do with Brian Cook.
EDIT: Don't jump on S&C for sounding too negative. He's just a realistic UI fan. I could stand to dial back a bit myself.

When I watched this tape a few months ago DWILL did come to mind. Just his body size and the way he goes into his shot. Obviously comparing a high school kid's ability to Junior in College Dwill is not reasonable but he has the kind of body and style on the court that does bring back memories. Maybe that is why I think he is going to be so good.
I'm a realistic UofI fan, and have been since I attended my first game in Memorial Stadium in 1980. I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Smith is a downstater, he doesn't have handlers, he hasn't been deep into the AAU swamp, we aren't up against Kansas and their "boosters" (and all is quiet on the UK front). This is a recruitment directly against MSU for a kid that grew up an Illini fan that lives 2.5 hours from campus. I'll take our chances
