No question about this, but I think that applies to all local Illini media - not just Tate.

After all these years of talking about "Chicago recruiting" from a distance, WDWS finally had Nick Irvin on Sportsline (w Tate) and Tay & Jay had Robert Smith on. I don't think these shows had actually ever tried to talk directly to these guys, preferring instead to speak in innuendos about how Chicago recruiting works. I hope they do more of that in the future. I got the sense that Smith was sort of a reluctant guest, but he was pretty clear about why recruits choose a school. Irvin was a pretty enthusiastic guest and was pretty clear as well. I suggest listening to both podcasts.

Having seen both of them play, Goodwin does not have the talent level of Smith, or athleticism. But Goodwin is one of the hardest workers I've ever seen on the court. He just wills his team to wins.

Pretty sure Goodwin had shoulder surgery not a torn ACL, but haven't kept up with him as much once he picked SLU

No way! My school had 2 nicknames during my time there but I can't tell you one of them for fear of being banned.

My kids attended yet another unnamed Mid-Illini school.


One of my good friends is a teacher and coach at Redbird high.
