Detroit Free Press has now picked up on Tate's report and published the "rumor" Smith to Illinois. Who knows if they have actually done any reporting to back up Tate's assertion though

How did you find this? Do you actually drink this? By the way, back from self imposed timeout when JT backed out. Though been lurking. No cup tonight.

Welcome back. Brave of you to go cupless.

I cautiously optomistic, but still team #WearTheCup

Just an Observation:
Tate says Illinois
Crystal Ball predictions say Illinois (would have seen them change by now had it been MSU)
General feeling is that something went very well when Smith visited Illinois because Illinois didn't seem to realistic until he visited.

As an Illini, I always know to be prepared for the worst. But this feels different

Had clients that were

I used to run a plant that made liquor labels and we sold to Brown Forman, Castleton Beverage (Bacardi), Jim Beam, UDV, etc. All the big players in the market. I have drank right out of an uncut barrel of Beam which if I remember is either 120 or 140 proof before they cut it with water. chugged about an 8 oz cup...not a wise move especially since I didn't care for Bourbon at all in those days. We also made wine labels in our Napa operation and I spent a fair amount of time out there too.

The Transfer Portal

Sports columnist Loren Tate of the Champaign News-Gazette reported Wednesday that Illinois Mr. Basketball Mark Smith will announce he intends to play for the Illini this fall. Tate, without citing any sources, wrote “word of Smith’s choice spread through Edwardsville (Illinois) and is the hottest item in collegiate basketball today.”

See? It's weird.

lol I can't believe a freaking cake is what leaks the decision. What a time to be alive.

Loren Tate seems to view the Fighting Illini as a "Downstate team," and for that reason - regardless of anything else he has to offer - I hate him as a sportswriter. Period.

And I say that as a native Peorian who's very proud of Downstate Illinois but even prouder of any chance at state unity, specifically behind the Fighting Illini.
