Probably going to get beat. Maybe we will see tons of improvement though...

This is the WKU team who's former coach went and almost beat ranked Louisville with Darrell Hazel's defunct Boilermakers right?

Let's hope the coaching change/transition has been tough in WKU.

I think we play better this week.

WKU - 27
ILL - 20

We win the turnover battle 3-2. We complete 15+ passes. And we end the game with the ball and a chance to either tie or win (with a 2-pt conversion).

If we are less than a touchdown underdog, I'm going with our guys:

WKU: 21
ILL: 24

I figure that score worked last weekend. If a person believes coaching makes a difference, then we should see improvement this week, particularly with pass blocking and third and long containment. Dudek and Turner need to see the ball more. We'll need some breaks, but this is a winnable game.

WKU wasn't overly impressive their first week against Eastern Kentucky. Winning 31-17.

If we shut down their WR Lucky Jackson, and see some improvement with our offensive line - we win by two touchdowns.

I see us flipping the score from their first weeks game. 31-17 Illini.

I was at Westerns first game against EKU, and you were right they were less than impressive. Dont know to chalk that up to first game under new coach, saving stuff for Illinois, or if they are not as good as in years passed. They were missing two key offensive weapons that they will get back week 2. There major weakness is their offensive line, the defense struggled last week in the 2nd half as well. I think as of right now, WKU is the better team.

Has there been any update on injuries sustained during the game (Kramer? others?)

Hopefully the guys get better this week. I just watched the game. Down 6 with BS driving and less than 5 minutes in the fourth quarter, these kids coulda gave up. They didn't. Hats off to them for fighting off the upset.

Lovie Smith press conference

https://twitter.com/JWernerScout

Lovie: Wanted to be 1-0 after first weekend, and that's where we are. Really proud of the way we finished.

Lovie: Wanted guys to go through adversity and see how they responded, we did that. Character showed. Guys stepped up.

Lovie: With that being said, a lot of things to improve and we've started that process. Saw improvement throughout game

Lovie: Now, it's on to another good football team in WKU. Returning QB (Mike White) is a challenge.

Lovie: We have a few injuries. Won't talk in detail about them right now.

Lovie: Not sure on Jaylen Dunlap and guys who didn't play.

Lovie: We have a plan for OL that we feel good about. Won't comment on if Kramer will be available.

Lovie: OL didn't play as well as we need to this week.

Lovie: OL was in flux due to injuries but we need to be better despite that.

Lovie: Tough duty to play CB in general, but tougher for true freshmen. Handled themselves well. Hobbs had just 1 week of practice

Lovie: Dudek adds "excitment and big-play ability" to punt return game.

Lovie: Malik Turner fought injuries throughout training camp and had a big game

Lovie: When there weren't holes, Mike Epstein still made plays.

Lovie: Epstein film showed the speed. "When you meet him, you like him even more."

Lovie: It's our job to get the ball more to Mikey Dudek. A lot of playmakers to get the ball to

Lovie: Like all of us, Crouch wants to play better. But he made critical plays at the end.

Lovie: We know what we're getting each play in Chayce.

Lovie: Most improvement on team happens from Week 1 to Week 2. Hopefully our team does that.

Lovie mentions WKU as favorite. Said he doesn't use that as motivation. We have our own goals.

Lovie: QB Mike White is mobile but more of a pro-style QB. They use a lot of formations, shifts. More traditional-style attack.

Lovie: Del'Shawn had a lot of tackles, but he left some on the field.

Lovie: Tymir Oliver "shows up with his lunch pail each day. Good start for him. He'll even get better."

I saw in the box score that Eastern threw the ball 48 times, yet WKU recorded only one sack. Is there hope for the Illini offensive line or does Eastern just throw a bunch of quick hitters? Looked like neither team had much success running.

Numbers may have been inflated by late 4th qrt a bit. Westerns D was not good in the 2nd half, put little to no pressure on EKU. That should be an area of concern for Western, Western was missing two of their top RBs both of whom should be back this week. The two they had last week were more of your "thunder guys" great in short yard situations. The two they could get back this week (Baker and Allen) are quicker so we will see if that adds to their attack.

WKU by 14+. Our QB won't be able to keep it close.

WKU 42 ILL 21 If line and secondary play doesnt improve

WKU 31 ILL 28. game could go either way if Lovie and staff is able to coach up the line and secondary.

Eastern Ky would have given the Illini a battle as did Ball State

WKU is heads and shoulders above Ball State

Chayce needs to react a little bit faster, he looked slow in his reads. Lovie needs to get some quick hitters for him, such as the pass to Turner to setup the go ahead score. More running by the way, don't care if we run 3 downs and then punt. We need to slow down their rush because our QB and O-Line can't handle a pass rush that is ready to tee off.

I think my only real surprise in the Ball St game was how weak our offensive line is. I thought they would be challenged against the top big ten teams, but thought we would dominate the first two (and I secretly hoped three) games.

We saw the d-line get better throughout the game. Linebackers are the strength of the defense as expected. I think our young d-backs are going to be fine. No doubt the defense will be tested next week, but I think they will be OK.

Offensive skill position players are OK to great.

Luke Butkus is my favorite Illini Asst Coach for obvious reasons. I really, really, really want him to succeed. Optimistically, I am looking for him to fix the line and be the example of Lovie's statement that the biggest improvement is in between the first and second games. If the O-line isn't fixed, this is going to be a 2-3 win season. If the O-line can just be an low average big ten unit, and the defense matures as I expect, I still think we can be a 5-6 win team.

Keys to this game: O-line gives crouch time to hit our playmakers downfield, and d-line and d-backs take another step forward from the fourth quarter of BSU.

Always the optimist: UI 31, WKU 27. The BSU 4th quarter pays dividends, as the cardiac kids take another step. Also, I have to say I don't like the idea of Dudek returning punts on regular basis. At the end of a close game, fine. More than that is flirting with disaster. We won't win a game without him.

Any guesses as to what the line will be assuming Kramer is out? I couldn't really figure out our combos last week.
