I have no idea what the recruitment of these Europeans means, but I do know to lose Castleton now would hurt.

We have been on him a long time and have a need. Michigan has been there but came on later in the game and doesn't really have the room or the need.

I've got to think Castleton is on board unless he is just blown away by Ann arbor. The other bigs could be a hedge on Conditt.

Castleton and Kisunas seem like pretty different players who could clearly occupy different roles on the team and on the floor. Castleton and Conditt, on the other hand, seem much more similar to each other. If either Castleton or Conditt were to commit, getting Kisunas, too, still works very nicely. If we can move his visit up and be fortunate enough to land him quickly (does that ever happen?), then whichever of Conditt or Castleton wants to come, fine.

Of course, just getting anyone to commit would be a nice first step.

Joe Henricksen comments from Sportsline today:

THT: "Illinois is on the outside looking in."

Ayo: "I'll be surprised if he doesn't go to Illinois...and I wouldn't have said that about any of the other high profile recruitments like Cliff Alexander or Jalen Brunson."

I've been listening to Henricksen for years - he's the best there is with respect to Chicago recruiting and it's not even close.

I think it is pretty clear something happened between THT and Ayo and they won't be playing together in college.

He's not right all the time, though.

Take Ayo if only one of two. Not close and Nolley similar to THT. Add Castleton and I'm ecstatic.

Brunson was never coming here. ever, Henricksen is mediocre at best

I've only seen the two highlight videos posted here, and I might be jumping the gun, but I really like this guy. Is he someone we've jumped on because there is doubt about Nolley? Or is it that the staff might want to give him an opportunity to commit before accepting Conditt?

Conditt & Castleton are both on the clock. My favorite phrase in recruiting is first come first served. Looks like they are trying to really put pressure on castleton.. conditt has announced October 2 as his commit date.. castleton has only announced an official to a school that hasn't offered him a scholarship & just took iggy to go along with their other forward recruits

Well, Beilein just met Castleton for the first time last Wednesday.:)

Absolutely ridiculous to me.. visit scheduled after meeting the head coach once.. almost as nuts as Julian Wright committing to Kansas without seeing the campus

Maybe trying to bunch visits together to pressure at least one of them to pull the trigger so as to not lose their spot? Recruiting has got to be 4D chess.

Agreed.. gotta wear your goggles to understand all of this. Pressure is the key word!

Some kids do their due diligence, some don't. Some kids need more validation. It's a very important decision, for many the most important decision they've ever made. Better to be as certain as one can be. As far as Wright, when your dream school wants you, why wait?

Realize you're well aware of this. For us fans, it can be very frustrating. Oh well.

To not go on visits is to do a bit of disservice to yourself. We all want kids to make immediate decisions but it's only beneficial to them to see all their options.

Surely someone, somewhere has made a spoof highlight video that shows nothing but a player's worst plays, misses and turnovers. Right?

Just my dad.... if it wasn't funny, it wasn't filmed:chief:

And the Michigan brand carries a lot of weight, as Henricksen said yesterday, the Illinois brand has become non-existent in the last 10 years.

Not doubting it, but how do we know this?

Michigan had been recruiting Castleton for some time, now just more intensely. Castleton had a pre-exisiting relationship with Luke Yaklich (Michigan Assistant) from his time at Illinois State, who continued to recruit him at Michigan. I know that many people on this board are trying to make it sound that Michigan just came out of nowhere last Wednesday, but that has not been the case. They are just making a stronger push.

Yaklich was just hired by Michigan on August 3rd. VC shows first Michigan interest as 8/22. MGOBLOG has no mention of CC until this month.

Deron Williams never made an OV to Illinois. Self had an in home on 9-11-01, bad day to say the least.

Self could talk a recruit into or out of anything.

Tate is right when he implied that we should have paid Self 5 mil a year and it would have been a good investment. Guenther absolutely was terrified of the big money direction of coach's salaries and wasn't going to play that game.

There was a tremendous pull to Kansas for Self but I remember an article that I think originated in the KC Star that stated that the KU board expected Self to accept immediately. When 3 days went bye there was a conference call between some KU board members as to a backup candidate.

Kansas I believed was in the picture, JW was a top 10 recruit. I think Illinois fans felt he was ours, I'm not sure the rest of college bb felt that way.

Sherron Collins was the one I remember that Kansas came in last minute and swooped him in. I believe he was a strong Illini lean, he had a very good career at Kansas. But would of been part of the Illini family/in-state hero if he had chosen to stay.

Sherron Collins, the ultimate Illini silent commit.. Anthony Longstreet and the famous "show me the canceled check.":D

It's interesting to see how many schools have gone in a different Castleton direction. Xavier, Purdue, OSU, FSU (told him to go the prep school route, sound familiar:D) and Florida (Kuhl, you were spot on here). Baylor was in to visit him this week and there was no follow up that I can find. They were in his final 8.

Just because a site (VC) says "first interest" on 8/22, it does not make it right. As I said, Yaklich had been recruiting Castleton since he was at Illinois State, and continued to do so at Michigan. When Castleton released his final 8 on Aug, 21 (8/21 - see below), Michigan had already made the final 8 list. This is not a case where Castleton first met anyone from Michigan on 8/22 or Michigan just started recruiting him last Wednesday. Just that they their recruitment has intensified with a home visit and OV.

On Sheron Collins, aside from the recruiting cloud, I still find it hard to fathom a McD All American and college 1st team all American doesnt get drafted or have a couple of years at least in the NBA. I know he was short, but....
