For those not following international basketball, the top international prospect and a guaranteed top-5 pick in next year's draft (may go No. 1) is a Slovenian player, a full year younger than Matic Vesel. One of the most fundamentally sound players I have seen in a long time, in ALL aspects of his game.

Sounds like we were a lot closer with Brunson than I thought.

Henricksen: The power of the official visit (and what it could mean for Ayo Dosunmu)

Very. I'm no insider, but I did have some access to that circus. Rick had given the Groce staff a list of conditions they had to attain to get JB, and told them they checked off every box. They were essentially told JB was coming...until the goal posts were moved at the last second and he wasn't.

Wow - really like that AYO article by Henrickson! Provides some real insight into the Jalen Brunson recruitment by Groce. Sounds like we almost had him nagged during his official visit --- while tucked away with his mom and JG in the basement of Groce's house.

Groce is looking like a recruiting superstar compared to the current staff, at least thus far.

Are you kidding me???

Very cryptic. It couldn't be playing time because he would of gotten more minutes with Illinois. Heard too many of these near misses to believe. At the time it was reported family was eager to return to Philly. Temple was eliminated so Villy became a prime option.

There's a reason Underwood is current Illinois coach and Groce is in Akron, and it's not because of their recruiting chops.

No, it wasn't PT, and yes, the allure of going back home was a pull for them.

At least from the article it doesn't sound like goalposts moved. It sounds like a dad who wanted his son to make an informed decision rather than an emotional one. That's not shady or underhanded in the least. Just because you check all the boxes doesn't mean you win, particularly when other places also checked said boxes.

I wish Brunson had worn O&B, but nothing in that article suggested he was anything but thorough in coming to the opposite decision.

Mike it looks like he got into a fight or something. Have you seen pictures of him?

yeah, saw those. Looks like he was. Still hanging with Chase and basketball guys though.
I read elsewhere that he was severely beaten during the summer.
Really hope he gets straight and back on the court. As I mentioned before. this has upset me a lot more than any recruits we haven't gotten. This will determine how long he lives and what kind of life he has. Really hope Chicago State has kept that scholarship open. I know Chase won't give up on him. They've been court buds since early grade school.

You are right. Just saying that there's a reason staff thought they had this one wrapped up. After the Nova visit when they went back and thought about it for 2 days without the emotion, the goal posts changed a bit - then Groce and staff went up to make a last ditch effort to seal the deal they thought was nearly done, but it didn't work out. The staff was widely criticized for prioritizing JB over Evans on that first day of contact.

There are myriad reasons to criticize Groce, but that one sticks in my craw because that one wasn't his fault, per se. I wish JB had worn O&B too. As a Stevenson and Illinois alum, I really wanted 'my guy' to be the one to lead UI back to glory.

Once the courts ruled in favor for Rick and he was free to move about, going "home" was the Brunson's family goal.

Past coaches performance has no indication of future success of new coaching staff. Rah, Rah could not focus long enough to do the job. BU has a track record of his coaching success is his resume, his style and demeanor, yet to be seen by us here, have made him a solid choice.

Recruitment is something that he will be able to do at:illinois:, once his team shows the product he has to offer. All that think he can't close have short memories. Having recruits that want to play at:illinois:, are the ones he wants. No begging, no promises, just players that are dedicated to becoming better , willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish that.

Our 2017 team are about ready to show all, hard work and discipline, are the way to win. Not cheering, and attaboys, this team is what we have been wanting to see for many years.

Doncic is already projected to be a Top 10 when he decides, doubt he ever plays college ball for anyone.

Considering Rick took an assistant's gig in Minneapolis as soon as it was offered, I can only assume he'd have been okay with Jalen at Champaign. Henricksen wouldn't make up such an easily deniable conversation. If we had had the last visit, we'd probably have gotten Brunson, is basically what Joe Hoops is saying.
Lets hope this time it works as regards Ayo and Wake Forest.

Watch this video from McColley: The Mystery of Da'Monte's Father

The first IlliniReport video from Media Day 2017 will make you feel old: No one on the team remembers Frank Williams. Oh, youth. Where have you gone? (It made me feel fat & bald, as well.)

Spoiler: Even Champaign native and Illinois legacy Michael Finke doesn't know.
