Michael Porter Jr. to have back surgery, likely out for rest of season

Each day that passes without a Ramey verbal to Miznoz makes it increasingly likely that he'll go elsewhere. And that is a great thing!

I can't stop watching that. It's like a car accident - just can't look away.

It's stuff like this that makes being an ILLINI fan bearable even in the worst of times...not gonna get that 3:33 back though,

I wish Porter Jr a full recovery. Super talented kid.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing some insult to this injury when after Mizzoo has to pay for all of his surgery and rehab, he then goes straight into the draft.

Hilarious post inside the article.....

Joan Niesen, SI.com: "Every year, about 4,000 teenagers enroll as freshmen at the University of Missouri. Another 75,000 or so babies are born to families in the state. Many of those poor young people are doomed, in the sense that by virtue of their birthplace or their college admittance they will cheer for the Missouri Tigers. I was both born in Missouri and chose to attend graduate school at Mizzou. I am twice cursed. I don’t remember the Fifth Down Game—I was about to turn three—but I lived through Frank Haith’s tenure as basketball coach and the loss to Norfolk State, the checkered career of former No. 1 football recruit Dorial Green-Beckham and Gary Pinkel’s revelation of a cancer diagnosis days after he’d managed his team through a divisive boycott. Really, even the good moments at Missouri often turn out poorly. In 2007, after its best season in program history, the football team was denied a BCS bowl bid that was given instead to Kansas—which it had beaten two weeks earlier. Quin Snyder, one of the NBA’s most talented coaches who was once the hottest name in college basketball, got his start at Missouri—where he embarked on a crusade of NCAA infractions and left the program in dire straits."

another misery article......

Oh boo-hoo. I'd kill for the football success they've enjoyed for the past 15 years. Hope to see Porter Jr. averaging a double-double for the Hawks (or some such) one year from now.

Cursed indeed. They just got a mediocre coach, who is only able to reach mediocre because he recruits like a blue blood. And it looks like the only thing keeping their tournament aspirations alive was this stud.

Will he recruit like this next year? I don't think so.
Do his players get better? Um, let me get back to you on that.
I would not like how my crystal ball looks if I were a Mizzou fan. They look bubbicious, and having just lived through the Groce years, the feeling of that little bit of throw-up in my mouth is still a fresh memory. :hurl:

I see that it was made in 2012, but I can't imagine making a video that could possibly do more to mock the racial issues that have defined Missouri the past few years.

There are just so many cringe-worthy things in that video. It is a true embarrassment for everyone involved (and even those who weren't).

I found the Kansas reply to be almost as stupid. I liked the concept of it, but the guys who did it are pretty much the same people that did the Missouri one, except their school has a better basketball program and they think they are better because of it.

I try not to schadenfreude, but Mizzou getting ONE GAME out of the recruit they hired their coach for is just magnificent

I know. That's crazy. Everyone knows they are better simply because they are not Mizzou fans.

The injury is bad for college basketball and bad for Porter Jr., I sincerely hope that the kid fully recovers, although back injuries are tricky and surgeries are well behind in success than other popular injuries (e.g., knees). I do not feel sad for Mizzou, but all these comments about hiring Porter Sr. for just one recruit are almost as bad as all the comments against Illinois hiring Chin for just one recruit.

Bottom line is that Cuonzo/Porter will continue to recruit well for Mizzou, they have always recruited well. Whether they do well long term remains to be seen, but it is guaranteed that we will compete for many recruits moving forward.

In my opinion there is little doubt he is draft bound.

Definitely a shame for the kid and wish him the best. I'm sure they didn't hire Sr. for just one recruit. After all, they also got Jontay in the deal and there are three more boys on the way. But I'm sure he was made the highest paid assistant at UW, despite exactly zero years of NCAA men's basketball coaching experience and given a 3 year, million plus deal less than a year later at Missouri because of his excellent recruiting chops outside his immediate family. Yeah. I'm buying that.

BOOM! Feed my ego.
But do you really want to use your #1 pick on a guy with serious back issues?

You pair up Lauri Markkanen with his would-be teammate at Arizona, DeAndre Ayton, or go with Marvin Bagley III or Mo Bamba. Bulls will have good options if Porter is too risky.
